Struggles and Surprises
It was morning. Benji was awake. Sunshine was slinking through the cracks in the walls, and the wind had finally stopped howling. But Kit was asleep. She'd burrowed into a haystack with a blanket and the saber tooth tiger. She used him as pillow one hand curled beneath her cheek and the other curled into the blanket.
Benji rumbled and lashed his long tail across the snowgirl's waist.
She growled something incoherent and buried her face in his shoulder fur.
Undeterred, the tiger yawned and bared his curved canines. Then, he swatted the girl with his tail one more time. Thwap!
"Benji . . . stop . . . tired . . . don't wanna," Kit muttered. She loosened one hand from the blanket and wiggled two fingers in the air. A half-hearted gesture of dismissal.
