Hey mate,

Sorry for the late reply. In answer to your question, there was no darker shade of black used, simply the spot UV which gave it a glossy finish contrasting the matte finish of the card.

It's called UV Spot Varnishing. Basically you design an extra layer on top of your original and the printers will 'varnish' that area to make it glossy.
