Chrysanthemum is one of the Four Noble Ones in Chinese culture along with orchid, bamboo, and plum blossom. Part of my Boy and Flower theme for 2017. I didn't like the lighter red background I did for this at first so I ended up blocking it up with black acrylic paint. The boy and flower series I'm making is a statement on our perceived "masculinity." Particularly in the gay community which seemingly upholds "straight acting" and "masculine" traits more valuable than feminine traits. I will be a hypocrite if I say I'm not attracted to "manly" men. Thus, this series is my way to explore how men and what is traditionally thought of as feminine aesthetics can compliment each other to create something that is beautiful to me, and perhaps to others as well.
