I have been a deviant art member for over 5 years now (my old account was link) and I just started submitting deviations to groups, watching artists that inspire me and favoriting other peoples work. I've been slowly teaching myself how to paint digitally, and dA has been an incredibly useful tool for it. I guess you can say that right now, I'm only updating my journal because it's been so long.

I guess I'll mention some things that I've learned recently. I just tweaked a Photoshop brush so that the opacity is pressure sensitive to my pen tablet pressure. Originally, the pressure was set to control the size of the brush. I feel like this was a huge rookie mistake on my part. To be fair, I mostly drew and inked comic book art which was all just one solid black color, so line weight mattered a lot more than opacity. I still use that brush to sketch.

This new brush feels like I'm actually painting. My eyes have been opened, and I feel like an idiot. It's so much easier to render detailed lights and darks when you're just layering the same color over itself, and the process is much quicker too.

I'm in the process of a few commissions, so soon I'll have some stuff to post. I really hope I get a lot of spare time this year to do some personal paintings, because that's always where my hearts at.
