Winter is behind us and we are free to shoot in natural settings. Neither of us like to be cold, though we will do it when properly motivated. Currently, we don't have a good indoor venue to shoot in so most of our photography will be outdoors for awhile. My house is a shambles due to many remodeling projects that I undertake on my own, ripping out walls and floors, etc. But it will all be worth it whenever I get it all done. In either case, neither Ra'sha nor I have the proper amount of space to shoot in at our homes. However, mine will be easier to manage at some point and we'll have all the privacy we need for what we do.

Being in Texas means that we have a lot of wide open spaces to use. There are places that see very little human activity, like the various HUGE parks and nature preserves. I am quite comfortable in natural settings, and I am finding that Ra'sha is a very intrepid woman.

I see Nina now and then and she is doing well, in fact, better than when we were shooting together. Her life is 'better'. She says she wants to shoot again 'sometime'. She has a ton more ink and has had TWO MORE kids. But she looks soooo good!

Our current set of pics were taken in a State Park that is actually quite popular. There were people around on this day but we managed to avoid them. I am posting as 'life' allows me to so stay tuned.

Thanks for watching, faving and commenting.

Holy Crap!!! It's been over two years since I've posted! REALLY???

Well a lot has happened in those two years! A lot has changed, but much remains the same. Some of the changes will make it easier to shoot more often. Some changes are personal, and some are ok to tell about to good friends.

This past weekend Ra'sha and I went to a nature preserve to shoot, which is open to the public. It's a lot of fun knowing that you just might get caught doing what 'you're not supposed to do'. Senses are heightened and your awareness is acute. Who's out there? Where are they? Oh wait! That's me thinking! Ra'sha? Ra'sha is Ra'sha. "If they see me they'll just have to get over it." She's one of a kind! Well, in my little world, any way.

Sit back and relax. Pics are coming.

It has been over FIVE years since I shot with Nina, my first nude model. We shot together over a two month period and then she disappeared. At that time she was 26 and had just delivered her sixth baby only three months earlier. Over the years she would send me an email asking if I was ok. I would always respond that I was ok and ask how she was doing. She never responded but I had to have faith that if she had reached out to me that she was ok.

Tonight I visited my favorite convenience store and was hanging out talking with friends there. Other customers came and went. I paid no attention to them. Someone touched my arm. I turned to look at a five foot tall Latina girl who said, "I've been looking for you! You haven't changed a bit!" I know I looked shocked as I looked at her, recognizing her eyes, smile and voice, but not being able to speak her name. "It's me, Nina!" And then the flood poured out of me. "I KNOW who you are! WHERE have you been? What have you been doing? Why didn't you answer me? NINA!!!" Hug hug hug

Nina has had two more babies and married a man who she says has turned her life around. She calls him her angel. They did leave town for a while but now they live in my town again. She is working and appears healthy and happy. We exchanged phone numbers and before she left she said that she wants to shoot again and knows two more girls who want to model too.

2015 could be a very interesting year! Ra'sha and I are planning more shoots. A new and beautiful friend called Ocean will be modeling separately and possibly with Ra'sha. And now - Nina and friends??? Now if I could only get Yoshi to model again! What a year it would be!

Happy New Year to all!

Just over three years ago I was fortunate to meet Ra'sha, Ken, and Shawn. Many changes have taken place in that three years. Halley was born a few months after Ra'sha and I began shooting together. The family has moved, added three more family members, suffered a house fire (no one hurt), and moved again. Through it all, I come and I go, spending time with them, then going home. Each visit is a reunion. We are all like a big extended family now, not just friends.
Ra'sha and I have not done any "serious" shooting since the fire early this year. We did all go to the lake on Memorial Day weekend. Ken rented a boat for the day. We all had fun. I got sunburned beyond belief. I'm still recovering from it. (should have listened to Ra about the sunscreen)
It occurred to me that no one here has seen a picture of little Halley since she was about one year old. Well she's a happy, healthy two year old now, soon to be three. She's a lot like her Momma Ra'sha. Quick to smile and laugh, and she has a bit of a temper. But what two year old (or twenty something perfectionist) doesn't? Halley loves to color, and dance, and sing, and she seems to take to the camera like a little model in the making. So coming up next are some pics of Momma Ra'sha and little Halley at the lake. Ra'sha and I will get back to doing "our thing" shortly. So y'all just be patient. We're cooking up some stuff for a new shoot.

Big Bang Theory or Creationism? God, Goddess, or no god at all? Will we ever really know?

But WHAT IF God was a Goddess and she decided to create the universe and everything in it? Wouldn't that likely happen with a Big Bang? OR would she just make it all happen with a puff from her lips? OR would it explode from her mind?

The next series will be called Big Bang Theory for a couple of reasons. The idea came to me as I edited the pictures and something cool happened when I tweaked some things, and one of Ra'sha's favorite shows is called Big Bang Theory. So yes, some would be considered manipulations, while I will include the original which is only edited for crop, etc. Manipulations are not my strength, but I think most came out nicely. I even think Ra'sha herself will be pleased to be likened to a Goddess with the power to create and destroy galaxies. (I can hear her 'evil laugh' now.) (Yes, she has one.)

The previous series of Ra'sha Dance and Big Bang Theory were done at the same time. I segregated the shots into two series as I edited. This shoot was probably the hardest physically on Ra'sha that we've done. She knew that all the head flipping she did would be a pain in her neck, yet she did it anyway. She did suffer for Arts' sake. She worked hard too. So, anyone who thinks modeling is always easy - not if you're really into it. And being on my side of the camera isn't always easy either - it took me three hours to clean up the mess we made. But Ra'sha is the true artist - she's the one who suffered. She's fine now, but it wasn't a painless next day or two. I love working with that little woman! She's just the best!

Happy New Year friends!

The first time we tried Fire Play I had no idea what Ra'sha meant when she said, "We now have Fire Play!"  Ignorant and stubborn, I did a lot wrong in shooting it. NOT this time.

This is dangerous to some degree. No one should attempt this type of play without training from someone who knows how to do it and how to be safe about it. Very bad things can happen. Also, the person being fire played must have complete and total confidence in the fire master. There should also always be a third person on hand for safety, ready to respond to any accident.

Yoshi (not her real name) and I have been friends for about 3 years. She is one of the sweetest young ladies I have ever met. Yoshi loves to model near as much as Ra'sha does. Yoshi is something  of a fashion Diva - EVERYTHING must be color coordinated, right down to the bling AND the shoes. Don't get me started on the shoes...

Yoshi has seen and admires Ra'shas pics, and dearly wants to meet her someday. Ra'sha does what Yoshi thinks she can't do. Yoshi and I have shot casual, fashion, swimsuit, sexy lingerie, but no nudes.  Last nights shoot went a little differently. We have spoken of it many times and last night she decided that some implied partial nudes might be nice. It's a big step just for her to be topless in front of me so I promised that we won't show anything this time - just get close. We eased into it a little at a time to ease the nerves. She had a blast with it! I asked her and she consented to let me post the shoot. Enough nice comments and faves may get her to do more - I dunno.  All I can do is ask her again.

Ra'sha and I just passed our two year anniversary shooting together in May. Just before I went to shoot with her again I noticed that she had changed her DA name from Sympligoth to Sympli-Me. I asked her why she had done that hoping that she didn't expect me to go back and change who knows how many Sympligoths to Sympli-Me's on her pics. She said she changed it because "goth" no longer defined her and that "me" was better, but not perfect either. I have this thing about unusual names - I want to know who named them that and how the name was arrived at. I've heard some interesting stories over the years! When we first met I asked and Ra'sha told me how she came to be called Ra'sha and that's a whole nuther story. The long and short of it is that she doesn't know how the name was arrived at and that it has no meaning, which I can verify because I looked in several databases. It is a unique one of a kind name. So tonight as I was looking through the next batch of pics it hit me... she should have renamed it Sympli-Ra'sha! Why? Everybody is a "Me" and she is as unique as her name is. "Ra'sha" is symbolic of a life change that has never ceased changing. She is always the same wonderful person, but more than what she was from one time to the next.

I will always cherish the friendships we've all formed. Ra'sha, Ken, Halley and Sean are all like family. It would be hard to imagine life without them in it now.  And welcomes to new friends Hailey, Jaz, and JenJen.

Mind you, I'm not saying that what anyone else is doing is wrong, or that what I do is great either.

Why is it that some name their pictures with just a number?
Why is it that some caption their picture with that same number? Or caption it the same as the title?
Why is it that some feel the need to tell us what camera, lighting equipment, or film stock they used for the image and nothing else in the caption?
Why is it that some title and/or caption with nothing but the obvious? Eg. Nude Sitting, or Nude B+W, or My color work, or My black and white work (Duh, really?)
Why is it that some never even acknowledge the person who modeled for them?
You tell me cuz I dunno.

But I hope I never get to the point of doing these things these ways. I may never be as good a photographer as some who do these things, and I may shortcut a title or caption, but somebody beat me senseless if I ever fail to acknowledge my model(s) in some way. I still consider myself to be very lucky to do what I get to do.  Without the women who model for me, I'd be taking pictures of the same things everyone else does. They are my teammates, my friends, even family.  How could I let my ego not give them credit for what they have contributed?
You tell me, cuz I dunno.

It's often hard to define 'when it works', but Ra'sha and I had another one of those moments in our last shoot together. I had an idea of how to produce an image in the camera but I didn't know if it would really work or not. I explained the technical details to her and what I wanted for an end result in the images. Ra'sha knows enough about photography to see that this could possibly work. I was more concerned about the technical aspects and left the posing to her. Good thing too. She knew exactly what to do. What we produced is very different from what we normally do. Some may love it and others may see no point in it all, but I'm excited to show some of it now.

One quick statement about the technical aspects. The images did do what I wanted in the camera but like any experiment it wasn't perfect the first time. I did have to tweak the images extensively in Photoshop but they are what the camera captured. There are no PS tricks involved. Like any good experiment, I learned a lot. I know what to do differently next time. If Ra'sha lived just down the street from me we would do this over again right now. This is something I hope that we can have a do over on next time we shoot. These will be in the 'Artsy Stuff" gallery folder.

I have always shot in the jpeg mode in the past. But this last shoot I decided to try shooting and editing in the RAW format. The RAW format is what the camera stores pics in in its' "native" language. They are uncompressed and therefor contain every bit of data the sensor caught. RAW format editing offers some "extra" options that jpeg does not. Now, that being said, I'm not one to do a lot of editing. I rarely go beyond tweaking the lighting, contrast, and saturation. I don't rely on the "airbrush" to take away every defect. I don't think that's very honest.  I will on occasion use it to help out a situation, but basically you get things the way they were shot.

As I learn to edit in RAW I am trying some things out, so you may notice some differences. Bear with me. I'll get it right.

Throughout my life I've grown accustomed to and come to expect that people come and go in my life. I accept this often as part of "nature" taking its' course. But when you help to bring a human being into the world, witnessing her first breath of life, teaching her, guiding her, all the way through to being an independent, productive adult, - it isn't the same. All the little points of separation in life I've dealt with ok. She had a crush on a boy and it wasn't me -ok. Had a boyfriend - ok. Learned to drive - ok. Found the ONE man for her - ok. Moved out of my house -ok. Moved two hours away so he could finish school - ok. He finishes school in December and has a job offer that will require them to move as far away as Alaska - F-ing Alaska!!! (I don't have anything against Alaska, just the distance from home.)  And - I AM NOT OK WITH IT!!! SO NOT NOT NOT OK WITH IT. This is not like the first day of school where I'll get to see her again tonight. Or she's at work right now but she'll be home later. Or she's a couple hours drive away and it's no problem to pop on down there to see her. But THIS I was not prepared for.... not really.

I'm not worried about her with the man she's with. He's a good man and is good to her. They are well suited to each other. Hell, I even like him, so he can't be too bad.

So if I seem gloomy, grumpy, or otherwise out of sorts (god help the trolls that might stop by right now) just please, let it pass. I'll be ok when I can be ok with this. And I will be. I have to be.

On August 9, 2009 I uploaded my first pictures of Nina.  Just over 2 years ago. Today I and my models hit 15K favorites. Thanks to our audience and thanks to all of them. Without the girls I wouldn't be writing this journal.

The first pictures of Nina were the result of a joke I had made about her posing nude for me. I never thought she would actually do it. We were in a tiny room that I had just made into a makeshift studio the night before. There was another girl I was hoping to get to pose for me - and she had experience. So I needed a "studio".

Then Eko. She is one of a kind. She taught me that it can be fun to shoot pics, not just all technical this and that. I've never been flipped off more in my life - and didn't mind it one bit. She will always be my friend - no matter where she goes or what she does (or doesn't do - call me you witch). I know our life paths will cross many times and she is always welcome.

And now Ra'sha. If ever there was a Muse she is it. Ra'sha ALWAYS has ideas and concepts for us to work on. She challenges me technically with different situations all the time. Ra'sha not only bares her body, but herself as well. If there is a bashful bone in her body I don't know where it is. Most photogs and models only post the "artful" shots because the model doesn't want her "smirky face" posted, or the photog may think it's beneath him and his rep or whatever. Ra'sha is genuine through and through. I love her personality and she lets me post it. I grow bored quickly looking at models with dull, lifeless eyes and faces, and those who never look into the lens. She allows me to show her as a person and not just a body. We agree that what we do is mainly for fun with some art thrown in now and then. So when she throws things at me, flips me off, laughs so hard she's red faced, sticks her tongue out at me, or shoots daggers at me with her eyes - she's showing me her love, love of being herself. It's a six hour drive to get to Ra'sha and Kens from Dallas. Ken is always supportive and helpful, and learning to shoot too. He has taken some really good pics too. I hope we get to shoot together for a long, long time. She makes me want to get better at what I do.

To my (our) audience, all of you deviants who "Watch" and those who just pass through I thank you for the comments, faves and page views. Without you there isn't much reason to do this. I get way behind in thanking for faves, but rarely neglect a comment. There are a few of you that have become special to me that I hope to meet in person someday. Some of you help me with guidance and technical advise and I am grateful to have your input.

Yeah, ok. I know 15K may not be a lot for some artists, but I never even expected 1500. So, I'm amazed at what we've done.  Thank you all.

She's kind of short
But that's ok
Her table manners aren't the best
But that's ok
She doesn't talk much
But that's ok
She has trouble walking
But that's ok
She sleeps a lot
But that's ok
She doesn't have many teeth
But that's ok
Her hair is really short
But that's ok

Hers eyes light up when she sees me
And that's ok
Her eyes are pretty and blue
And that's ok
She smiles so big at me
And that's ok
She claps when we're happy
And that's ok
She screams when I don't pay attention
And that's ok
We spent five days together
And that's ok
Then I had to leave her
And that's ok
I'll be back
And that's ok

Ra'sha and Ken's little Halley is an 11 month old charmer! Five days and she still liked me.... this could be a long term relationship here! Yes, of course we took some pics of her. How could I not?

Most of the pics Ra'sha and I did this time were outdoors. So you nature lovers will be happy. The heat was oppressive but Ra'sha never flagged. We were shooting at temps of 104 degrees but fortunately some of the pics also involve water, too. Most of the shoots were done in public accessible areas and we had help from two friends, Lori and Tim to provide some extra security. Thanks to them! And thanks to Shawn for always being there to help out with everything. I will be posting in the next few days as I get time to process the pics. So hang in there!

The demands of life have slackened a bit. I've fixed my computer. And I've built a storage shed 100% top to bottom, all by myself. That's right. Every saw cut, nail and screw, paint stroke, done only by me. 10'x12'x 10' tall. I have room for all my chit now and I'll never have to duck my head to get in there again!

So naturally with all that going on I'm behind on everything. Nothing new it seems. I had to get away from all this so on Memorial Day I went to a Renaissance Faire called Scarborough Faire, just south of Dallas. I shot tons of pics just for fun. The women dress in period costume and love to pose. It's a target rich environment for me. I've posted a ton of these on my other page Got-You-2 Sorry no nudes. It was a family oriented public event.

Before that I went to Arkansas and shot with Ra'sha, Ken and Shawn. Bet she's wondering if I'm ever going to post any of them. Well I am. Shortly. But I'm going to indulge myself first by posting some pics from behind the scenes that I personally like. Again, this trip was a lot of fun and I ended up learning more about what I do. And little Halley is growing - and she seems to love the camera, too!

So I met this very sweet girl who goes by "Key" here on DA who happens to be pregnant AND lives close enough that we can shoot together! Key was at 19 weeks when we shot last weekend. She was a bit nervous at first, but who isn't?

Key will not be doing nudes. She and her husband are not in favor of doing them at this time. So please, don't even ask.

So here is the dilemma: bobtown is primarily for nudes and partial nudes. But I have to post her somewhere.  So here is what I intend to do. I know that some of you here are into the pregnant female form, so I will post a few here on bobtown, and the bulk of her pics will be posted on my other page Got-You-First. gotyoufirst is for women who don't pose nude, or didn't at the time.

Key and I would like to shoot every month or so until she delivers, and then maybe sporadically afterward. I will update you with her progress here to let you know that more pics are available on Got-You-First. All are welcome to come by now and then or to watch us there, as you choose.

Keys page is :iconninjapride:. She may at her option also post some of her pics there as well. Please stop by and leave a comment if you'd care to. She's very nice. Wish her well in her pregnancy.

I plan on shooting again with Ra'sha and Ginger Red again hopefully next month. Ra'sha says that she has some fun things planned. I can't wait to see what she has up her ummm sleeve this time! You never, ever know with that one! Gotta love it!

So where do I begin?
A dear friend nearly died and another friend departed returns to my life. Work is being a bit difficult. And I'm behind on everything.

I apologize to everyone here, but my mind has been elsewhere lately. Especially, I apologize to "W". She must think me an awful person right about now. I will try to make amends with her shortly.

One of my dearest friends had a stroke. We usually have dinner together on Friday nights and rehash the week and make fun of each others' troubles. It's not easy seeing her in a hospital bed unable to take care of herself.

And then I have spent time with another friend who I thought was lost. Circumstances have brought her back that I didn't think possible. She is a light in my life that I find difficult to explain. I just know that she is.

So I will try to gradually get things back on track and make amends. Hopefully all will be well in the end.

I want to try something new, at least for me anyway. I want YOU to title the next set of pics of Ra'sha, Geisha Warrior. But with a twist. YOUR titles must tell a story. There will be about 48 (numbered 1 - 48) pics for you to work with. I suggest you wait til they are all up before you start writing titles. Use the pics to illustrate your storyline. Remember, you will only have about 25 characters per title since my designation: "SG RGW" will come first. Then when you get them all figured out send ME a NOTE with YOUR titles.
I will then ask some other DA members to choose the winning entry for me. After they have chosen a winner I will rename EVERY one of the pictures to as closely match YOUR titles as I can. I will also edit the artists comments to show that you wrote the story and the titles. All favorites titles will also change so go ahead with the faves. No problem. They won't get lost.
I can think of no better way to combine the talents of so many writers and friends here on DA than this.
To get you started I will upload two titled pictures and then begin the numbered pics. I will also start off the story line with a "suggested" background. Ra'sha, Geisha Warrior was born to the poor family of an Imperial Warrior. She was never allowed to become a warrior because she was a girl. She, instead was trained in the art of Geisha. But her father, having no male children, taught her in secret, the ways of a warrior.
Have fun and good luck. You have until December 20th to get it done.

Last weekend I went to Arkansas to shoot with Ra'sha, aka :iconsympli-me:. Her first shoot after giving birth by C-section to Halley on September 8th was phenomenal. You almost can't tell that she was ever sooo pregnant. I know, I know... so many of you are waiting anxiously for baby pics! So I am going to post some tonight. Ok?

A couple of days before that I shot with that gorgeous redhead, Ginger Red. I kind of snuck up on her while she was getting ready. You'll see what I mean. Then she came along for an outdoor shoot with Ra'sha! Too shweet for words! Then I took her home. Then I shot more with Ra'sha and well let's just say there were more photo firsts for me!

A little photo techie note: I finally got some real studio flash units and light boxes. What an amazing difference! But what the hell?! They don't come with instructions on how to use them!! :( Good ol' trial and error to figure it out. If you want more info on the flashy things I got just let me know.
