The Grand Inquisitor by bobangeba The Grand Inquisitor by bobangeba
Ivan telling his brother Alyosha about his Grand Inquisitor, from the Brothers Karamazov. Unfinished, and leaving it that way.

Awwww, Alyosha's big, soulful, innocent eyes...I think that if he existed IRL he'd be just as perplexed with me as with Lise, because I just couldn't keep away from him. I'd want to hug him. He's exactly the kind of guy who could actually put me at ease enough that I could love him. :)

Ivan, on the other hand...he'd send me running. He seems, while not loud and obnoxious like Mitya or their father, to be something of an energy vampire. The kind of person who slowly drains the life out of those around him. Maybe that's because he's allowed himself to become drained of life of the spiritual kind. Alyosha would have to promise me I wouldn't have to spend much time around Ivan!

I finished reading The Karamazov Brothers ([link]) a couple of days ago; I read it in a flash, in eight days. So much of it remains with me, including Ivan Fyodorovich's tale of the Grand Inquisitor. Your drawing is brilliant; just as I imagined the scene in my own head, yet much better!

it's really really great, trully amazing. The only thing i would like to point out is Alyosha's clothes. He is wearing more a catholic-type attire, however he was orthodox, thus, the clothes would be different. Still, love the interpretation of this amazing chapter!

I'm reading this part just right now!

A lovely job in your portrayal of both characters. You've managed to capture the contrast between the two brothers well.

There's something very charming about this as an unfinished work. Perhaps it's just my cheap love for the novel. Perhaps it's my way of secretly admitting how handsome the two are in your depiction, and the subsequent guilt for having a simple crush on two amazing characters.

Regardless, I love it.

This is an incredible rendition of the Grand Inquisitor scene...I wish more artists could derive inspiration from some of the greatest literature ever created.

Alyosha looks very Alyosha-esque, and Ivan's pretty good too.

Very nice! Altogether few pictures out there of any of the Karamazovs.
Alyosha looks almost exactly like I picture him; Ivan isn't that much different.

This really is very beautiful. I love seeing digital art that's.. very rough. Not smooth like it's been run over by a smoothing steam-roller (Though I still love that art as well.. just can't do it)

Your understanding of perspective and angling, especially with the position of the hand against the face, is wonderful and very precise. I really love this work and the style that lies between realistic and graphical.

I really, reeeally like this. It's great how you put enough thought into their expressions and features that you can tell right away who it is - like Alyosha's gray eyes, ruddy cheeks, and mild expression. And Ivan looks properly sickly.

Finally I came across a TBK fan art worth seeing. It's very beautiful indeed and you've captured the scene perfectly (as well as Alyosha's and Ivan's personality... One can't help loving Alyosha). You should do more!

Those faces are beautiful. So painterly! It doesn't matter that it's unfinished, it looks lovely.

The Brothers Karamazov!!! My favourite Fyodor's book, except for Crime and Punishment of course:) I never thought I'd live long enough to see an art based on that story  I absolutely love Ivan's face - you've drawn it perfectly. And Alyosha is just sweeet ^^ Fantastic art!

Oh, I love the Brothers Karamazov! How great to see fanart for it. This is wonderful. I love your interpretation of the characters. And finished or not, the warm, muted colors look lovely.
