:police:  FINAL THOUGHTS: :police:

- Don't EVER take images from search engines like Google and resubmit them as resources.
- Don't EVER use celebrity photography for making resources, signature etc..
- Works placed on the internet do not have to carry a copyright symbol for them to be copyrighted!
- If the Terms of Use you need to follow do not allow a certain use, you can't use it.
That includes the use in pre-made backgrounds, cut-out stock etc..
- It doesn't matter if you put work into your manip' and it doesn't matter if it's "just for fun" and "no profit is made".

Remember, the copyright holder has the right to say NO & they have the right to be credited if they say so.

#1 My Most Frequently asked question:

Q: Where do you get all the vintage photos from?
A: Well sometimes you're lucky and a collection falls into your hands, either from a relation or a friend, or someone you know offhand. I have also purchased many from online, and from antique shops in real life. My collection is vast, and has been waiting to be uploaded for years, it takes some time indeed, as you can perhaps imagine. Also, a lot of them you can find from online, news groups and various places, most of them are public domain. I decided to upload and share my collection for those of you who can't be bothered doing all the hunting yourself, which is fine.
It all began with a collection of vintage photographs, some signed by British Music Hall entertainers, and managers; that belonged to my late grandma. My love of collecting stems from the desire to find out more about the life my  great grandparents lived, in the British Music Hall/Vaudeville industry.

There are a few vintage photos I'm thinking of using for a sticker design that will be handed out for free by my client, a book author. What are the restrictions on printing? Photos used will be elements of the design I'm creating--not reproduced exactly as show here. Thank you!

For vintage photos in the gallery, there are no restrictions, and I do not accept payment for vintage photo use.

It would however be nice to see the final image design.

So...what about personal photos? Like...I put a picture of myself into a frame and put it on facebook but it's not public? I still need to notify/link you? Not saying I wouldn't, just asking. My profile is private and locked down, so you wouldn't be able to follow the link if I sent it to you. What guidelines does this kind of thing go under?

I realise this wasn't the point of the journal, and don't worry, I have read the rules, but I just have to say: Your great grandparents worked in the British Music Hall/Vaudeville industry? That's so cool! Imagine the stories they could tell!

That's fine, I know you are aware of my faqs already, though I have altered a few of the fee structures and reduced a few of them.

Yes, I am still trying to track them down. I got one name not sure if it is a stage name or birth name - Ivy Raymond. I do have a few photos of her, and some of the people she was associated with already uploaded in my gallery. There was a theatre manager in England whom they associated with too. It can be so complicated at times, but also very fascinating.

It's just always so cool to have a real connection to something historic like that, and great to puzzle it together! Your great grandchildren will have less trouble finding out about your life, with our constant recording of everyday life.

I have a lot of old cards and postcards that belonged to my mother and grandmother. It amazes me how delicate and fancy some of the old cards are using ribbon, puffy satin and paper lace. I bought a card at the drug store that was three dollars and it was plain except for the birthday joke! I bet the old cards may have only been a penny or two!

$3.00 wow that was a bargain, decent greeting cards these days are at least $5.00AUD. And to think I was not allowed to charge any more then $3.00 at a gift shop for my handmade cards.

:wow: There are card stores where really nice cards can be purchased for as little as 50 cents. $3 is high for a card, unless it makes a noise or plays a song! Even those are usually only $5. The trouble is when shopping late at night like I usually do, and I have to purchase cards at Walgreens Drug Store or the Grocery Store, I end up paying full price. Both sttores are open 24/7. Most things are priced like any other store, but the specialty items, like cards, are a lot pricier. I have made a lot of cards in my days. I don't have the energy to make them any more, but I would if I could. There is nothing like a handmade card to give someone

Are you scanning the images or taking digital pictures of them? I have some really old postcards and other type of cards in albums. Some would probably make good stock. Many belonged to my grandmother and mother.

My mom and grandmother went to the 1939 World's Fair. I have a hotel receipt that states the hotel received her $2 deposit!!!!

I find I cannot get a decent enough quality from a digital photo of an image. So larger photos and ephemera have to scanned in in two parts, until I can invest in an A3 scanner.

The larger ones I have scanned. I just did some more on the weekend actually, currently sitting on a disc, because I can't find my USB stick. It tends to get taken from my work space by a little girl. But the ones I just scanned I did at 300dpi, and they need some tweaking before I upload them.

I was looking through all my folders just the other day and didn't realise just how much I had collected over the years.

Wow! A world fair, I bet that was something spectacular in their day, lol @ $2. Those were the days huh.

My mom told me she saw the potential for TV at the 1939 World's Fair. It took a few decades to become affordable and popular.

I need to scan in older photos. I did a few but they didn't scan well, so have to try again. I have a Kodac© printer/scanner that may work better than my old scanner.

Usually when I take digital photos I stand over the art while it lays on the porch or on the floor in front of the picture window. I always have to correct the white balance in PS Elements, even though I don't use the flash.

I looked at A3 scanners on the weekend, my god they are so expensive. I was looking at them because I had to take some copies of several vintage photographs (1800s) from my family. I haven't uploaded them from my camera to my pc yet, but I had to use my camera for these ones.

It's my grandma's 90th birthday coming up in September.
:nod:s Hmm I have an idea for a mini-project for those who work with vintage images. :w00t!:

Sounds interesting! I'll promote the contest when you get it figured out.
I had imported photos on my other site and the scanner didn't do a good job, so they still need redone. My Kodak© printer is on the fritz, but I think the scanner still works. Printers don't seem to last very long!

Funny about how the vintage photo jazz all starts...somewhere.
I still remember the first photos I ever bought, at a flea market, and I had no idea why I wanted them but I fell deeply in love with the thought that we are all on the same continuum of time. And the rest followed. :) Thanks for the clarification of your stock rules. I have never used your stock because I wasn't sure if it was okay, and I didn't want to bother you with stupid questions. You have a superb collection.

Oh yes, I have just started a new blog "Finding Ivy Raymond" the lady in the circle of my vintage interest, of which I have a few rare postcards of. And speaking of I must re-scan them at a higher res. In the same box of postcards from the Vaudeville and British Music Hall are several well known entertainers.

Oh really? I thought you had used my stock, I guess I just assumed that because you have been an active watcher. I do hope you create something then, because I quite enjoy your art.

I have already had discussions with deviant admins about this when I first opened my account, I am aware of what is allowed to be uploaded and what is not. Thank you for your concern.

Perhaps you might like to go notify all the other vintage stockers on DA.
