Choose Your Textile

First assignment in Seniors, taken Spring 08. Objective was to create a piece that expresses your identity while also creating something that moves or is interchangeable.

For all of you, it should be pretty clear how this expresses my identity. I love fabric and making costumes, so being able to incorporate it into a piece of jewelry while being able to maintain both mediums without them being overrun by the other made me feel very accomplished and very happy with myself. One of my favorite pieces created.

There are two fan shapes to each layer, and three layers to each pin wheel side. Each layer is fed over a tube which is set in a piece of carved delrin. Then at the top of the tube is a prefabricated upholstery button. In one delrin base is a pin stem, the other holds the tubing that the stem sets into. Is worn as a brooch. And yes, the pin wheels do in fact spin around the tubing.
