Sunlight danced through the leaves of the weeping willow, reflecting off of lake’s water, creating dappled patterns underneath the canopy. In the coolness of the shade, two small figures sat side by side, unmoving, against the strong trunk of the tree. There in the shade, where the grass was cool and dry and the sweet smell of summer hung heavy in the air, two small hands pressed against each other. Ten tiny fingers intertwined.
