The Dark Fae by Bluesrat The Dark Fae by Bluesrat
My Secret Santa wanted an illustration of the dark fae from C.S. Friedman's Coldfire trilogy, which actually is something I've been wanting to draw for literally *years.*

Funny thing is that this is actually the second picture for her. The first one I started in October. It took me two whole months to complete, and when I finished it, I realized it didn't quite do what I'd originally intended it for. So then I whipped this one out in three hours.

So, this was done in Adobe Photoshop with nothing particularly special. I'm really enjoying these single color pictures, and have just about decided I'm going to do them in all different colors.

Truly a work of something great. Mer Tarrant would be quite proud of the work you did of him.

Thank you! To tell the truth, I actually like this one better than the more elaborate illustration I did of the books. This is more like I see him in my head.

Always great to hear from another Coldfire fan!

This is gorgeous. I think this might well be my favorite piece you've ever done.

Ironically, it may also be the fastest. :) Just goes to show, time spent obsessing does not necessarily equal quality.

Sometimes time spent obsessing can spoil the piece. You've developed a very good instinct for what you want to make, from what I've seen; you should trust your gut and let the art take you along for the ride :D

It's definitely true. :) Letting go is a trick in itself, but I think it's an important step in developing as an artist. In any medium.
