Strange Shadows

The moonlight casts strange shadows.

Emboldened by my doodlings with the watercolor brush in openCanvas, I decided to get a bit more ambitious. And since I've had "Wild as the Wind" stuck in my head for two days, I was in the mood for something melancholy.

Therefore! Another monochrome piece, on the theme of Final Fantasy VII because I have it on the brain lately. I specifically wanted something novel featuring Cloud, but that's kind of tricky since, as one of the most popular characters in video games, it's hard to do something that hasn't been done a million times before. So I got creative.

Including! An actual landscape! Okay, so it wasn't exactly a lot of work, since I pretty much just needed to hint at shapes in the moonlight. Still: progress!

Edit: Holy cow. I knew my home monitor was super-bright, but I just looked at this on my work monitor and the picture's almost completely dark. Can anybody even see this?

Wow... I love the effect of the reverse inking... how the sword is the focal point of the picture, and everything else kind of blurs away from it...

Thanks. :) That was kind of an unintentional effect, or at least not conscious. I just detailed the things that I wanted to draw the most attention, and I guess it just sort of happened that way.

So the picture doesn't appear too dark to you? It looks fine on my home monitor, but on my work monitor (which is supposed to be properly calibrated), it's so dark that barely anything is visible at all.

I'd wager you were doing it without thinking about it ... layout's just becoming that natural to you! *^_^*

Yes, the picture looks fine to me!

Awesome, I love that style and the fact that in general, the objects close by are more blurred then the distant ones. It lends a certain sense of perspective which I find most intriguing.

That is a hot picture. :D I love the ghostly, less solid image of Zack at Cloud's side ... and for some reason, the lights of Midgar being included just makes this so indefinably sad. *snuggles Cloud*

Thank you! Yeah, I was going for a black silhouette of the city at first, but the lights just seemed necessary.

Zack being dead makes it very hard to work with him. He should know he's being very inconvenient.
