Steampunk Superhero, colored. (From this lineart: [link]
I've been sitting on this one for quite a while. I had it mostly finished in November, but I felt very discouraged about it. It was being very uncooperative about...something I can't remember anymore. So when I opened it up again yesterday, it looked fine to me. I figured I might as well give it a few finishing touches and put it up.
I do remember I wanted to play with a really strong lighting contrast and some traditional steampunk colors--brassy yellows, rich browns, and a gradation from warm to cool palette. Basically, it's a color experimentation piece for me. I'm not entirely happy with the colors--I can't tell whether I'm rocking them too hard or failed to commit sufficiently, or if perhaps I just made some poor choices on the palette somewhere--but I know this is as much as I'll get out of it.
If you've got any thoughts on it, please feel free to share. Getting the hang of color is tough when you don't have a natural instinct for it.
Edit: When I posted the other version, I realized what was wrong with this! Set the lines layer to "soft light" and voila! I sat on this for three months because of a blending mode. Argh!
