Finally built my first Super B-Daman! This guy is just AWESOME. I can see why so many people rave about the Super B-Daman series now. Those who know Fighting Phoenix realise the colour scheme is a little strange; this version is from the Phoenix Special Set. This isn't the first vintage B-Daman I've built; Cobalt Sword Clear Ver. was and it was rather difficult to build as the plastic had gone very brittle and the mold itself was a VERY tight fit. This guy was quite the opposite; despite being from 1996 (18 years old!! :D), the plastic wasn't brittle, it was strong and made a perfect fit as I went through building it. His delta core is extremely alike to the Battle B-Daman: Fire Spirits! series, save for the little drive strip of course. He does however, share the same waxy quality of clear plastic as Cobalt Sword, which again is more durable than the clear plastic we have now but no where near as beautiful. Despite not using any bolts like the DHB System or Cross Fire, his parts fit together perfectly and it sits really well; nothing is ever moving when it shouldn't and nothing will randomly fall off either.

There are photos where the base B-Daman can be found outside of its OS Gear, that can be found here instead.
I've just fallen in love with the OS Gear on this guy. It is ridiculously cool; it's basically an armoured skeleton that you put this base figure inside. It has hinged parts so you can roll the armour open and place him inside without any problems; the arm hinges are actually held together by a thin metal bolt/nail that comes packaged set in a rubber frame, that strangely holds the bolts really well in place but lets you slide them out with ease... Anyway. The other thing I had a fan-girl-squealing moment over was the wing backpack you can see in some of the photos; it is the inspiration for Cobalt Saber's wings! It really is, nothing else to it; not only do they look alike but are built and attached in practically the same way. I felt like I was building an old version of Cobalt Saber and setting it in a armoured body. The wing pack, called the Power Wing 2, also helps keep the B-Daman better in place within the armour body, attaching from behind the OS Gear and hooking through the peg holes on the back of the B-Daman's core. And it came with an extended and upgraded trigger, the Multi-Trigger 2, which gives a really nice amount of surface area to make it easier to pull the trigger in.

In terms of performance, this guy is REALLY good, very powerful. I expected it would be as during construction I noticed that the Power Wing 2 actually bends the back of the hold parts in when you clip the pegs in place, instead of the more modern B-Daman that just help stop the core's back hold parts from flexing as much. As a result, I do think that overusing this old B-Daman would put a lot of strain on the hold parts and eventually break them or the wing pack... so moderate use is good or just keeping it for display/collection purposes. But I highly recommend getting this guy; Super B-Daman really need a lot more love, they are fantastic!
