I have quite the tendency to leave dA for several months at a time... At least this time, I feel like I'm growing as an artist. I'll refrain from a ton of explanations and updates, but I'll just say, it's nice to be back.

I've been posting haphazardly to my Tumblr: bluesaved.tumblr.com

And I have an ArtStation portfolio now: www.artstation.com/artist/blue…

I'm going to (cautiously) declare that I've mostly clawed my way out of a years-long artistic slump. I'm still a little banged-up and need some time to fully heal, but the process has started. I've made myself accountable to several art groups instead of just myself, which helps tremendously.

Time to roll up my sleeves and give my gallery a once-over... Thanks and God bless to all of the wonderful people who have watched me over the years. I'll do my best to hold myself accountable to you guys as well.

I am so tired of making Livestream posts.

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 13, 2014, 1:07 PM
So, all morning long the internet was working properly, but of course, the moment I start livestreaming and post a link here, not to mention posting a link on Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr, it all decides to go to poop. There's some sort of SSL and DNS error that keeps recurring, and we're not sure why.

I'm using Comcast, and it's supposed to be business class internet, but it just isn't measuring up. We'll have to complain at the provider, loudly, later today. But in the meantime I'd like to apologize... I'm really sorry to flood everyone's inbox with stupid Livestream updates. It looks like a few short videos managed to make their way onto my Livestream channel, but still, not having a continuous stream is super annoying. I won't attempt this event again until I've managed to do a stream for an hour straight in private.

Sorry again, and thanks for your patience.

E3 Nintendo hype oh my God

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 11, 2014, 8:25 PM
Everyone who has an interest in video games is already well-aware of Nintendo's Digital Event on the morning of 6/10. While most of Nintendo's announcements at previous E3s and throughout the year have had mixed responses (ranging from outright rage to mild amusement), most reviewers are agreeing that this year's show is an overwhelming success. Fan boys were sated with a flood of nostalgia and a smorgasboard of Smash Bros announcements; naysayers and whiners had bomb announcements like new IPs, new Zelda and new Starfox shoved down their throats to serve as a gag; release dates galore with no setbacks; epic trolling from Miyamoto; Nintendo of America made sure the audience knew they read Neogaf with their skits and cultural nods; and the first ten minutes alone was full of enough gif fuel to last for the next decade. For anyone who didn't get a chance to see it, head to e3.nintendo.com and click on the Digital Event link to see the recorded event. It will not disappoint.

(Then look at the Treehouse Live feed and the Smash tournament, because they're pretty great too... And don't forget the #@NintendoofAmerica twitter feed for live roundtable discussions of new IPs as they're announced.)

Since I'm so inspired by what I've seen yesterday and today from Nintendo, I've decided to throw a Livestream event tomorrow at 12pm CST featuring Nintendo fan art. I'll be starting off with simple character sketches as a warm-up in the first hour or so, then I'll move on to requests for the next two hours, followed by an hour long intermission. To finish it off, I'll take ideas from the sketches created in the first three hours to start work on a full-fledged illustration. After I work on the illustration for about four hours, I'll either sign off or take a break around 8pm CST to do a couple of work meetings. Whether or not I continue after my work obligations depends on how the whole event plays out.

So to recap, here's my schedule for the Livestream (all times are Central Standard Time):

  • 12:00 pm - Livestream begins, artist's choice sketches
  •
  • 1:00 pm - Audience sketch requests
  •
  • 3:00 pm - Intermission
  •
  • 4:00 pm - Begin work on illustration (based on Livestream sketches)
  •
  • 8:00 pm - The End (...?)

Here's my livestream channel: www.livestream.com/bluesaved
I hope to see you guys there~

Oh yeah, and in other news, I'm working on coloring and editing a handful of old sketches. Here's what I'm working on right now:

Huntress Preview by BlueSaved

Busy Busy Busy

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 17, 2013, 7:19 AM
I have to say, this is the longest dA hiatus I've ever taken. But, I do have good reason: I recently had a huge career shift of a very positive nature. Instead of moonlighting as a retail monkey, I now work full-time as a real artist for Periodyc Studios~! (By the way, I'm the one that made that web site. It works best on current versions of most major browsers, but it's best viewed in Chrome due to CSS3 and HTML5 standards.)

Periodyc Studios is a new independent game development studio. I'm only contracted to them for now, but I'll most likely be working for them as an official employee when the contract runs out. We're currently working on a project, codename Titanium, and we'll have something to show by way of a playable demo by year's end (development just started = D ).

Now that I can draw all day, expect more stuff to post relatively soon~

Work In Progress

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 29, 2012, 12:06 PM
Just wanted to post a quick screenshot of a WIP. I'm redrawing an old piece:

Hopefully it's obvious that the original is on the left and the redraw is on the right...

Here's the original piece: Steampunk Final Part 3 by BlueSaved
I plan on replacing it ASAP. I want to add lots of pencil and scratch texture to it, just like in the original, but I want it to be planned, as opposed to a sloppy, haphazard mess. ^_^;

I know I promised to post sketches last night, but school got the better of me. I'll have those up later this evening. Thanks for your patience~

Shameless Self-Promotion

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 27, 2012, 11:53 AM
Hey guys, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend~ Mine was pretty great. I spent it with my boyfriend and his family, then with my family, so it was the most traditional and well-rounded Thanksgiving I had in a long time. If you have any interesting Turkey Day stories, please share.

As you can guess by the title of this post, I have some shameless self-promoting to do, but I'll get to that in a moment. First, I'd like to apologize for the lack of activity for the past few weeks. In my defense, I had a lot of stuff going on, ranging from apartment hunting to minor surgery, but in the end that really isn't an excuse for neglecting to post my art. I have a few things to share from my ceramics class, as well as a few sketches, which I'll be posting this afternoon, but I'm sorry to say I have no major pieces to share.

(With the exception of my disturbing fetish mermaid, aka the Hawt Girl: HAWT by BlueSaved)

Speaking of the mermaid, I meant that entirely as a satire of the disturbing fetish pictures that can be found floating around the internet (and tend to concentrate here on dA). Poor Thomas (boyfriend) mentioned it as an idea for a sketch in passing, and to his utter horror and dismay, I gave it life. It started as a super doofy sketch, then I just felt compelled to shade it... Then I was possessed with the desire to color it. And soon, I fear I may render it to a painterly effect. I think it may be taking over my mind. That duck face is haunting my dreams...

So I may as well take advantage of this unnatural obsession with a jelly-spined mermaid and try to sell prints of it. Which brings me to the shameless self-promotion!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Shameless Self-Promotion Section!

If you check the Hawt Girl page ( HAWT by BlueSaved) you'll see that I have prints of her up for sale through dA. If you like the image and want to have her eyes follow you in the comfort of your own home, at work, or taped to the inside of your sketch book (inspirational!), please buy a print! 4x6 matte and glossy prints are going for $1.00, with larger sizes and high-quality paper available at fair prices.

I'm currently in the midst of closing in on a new apartment with Thomas and our roommate shazzlnet, so I could use the extra funds from print sales to help cover minor expenses and some new storage materials for my new ~***~OFFICE SPACE~**~ (fancy).

Again, only give in to my relentless pressure to buy if you actually like the Hawt Girl. (You know you love her, and are therefore morally obligated to purchase a print).

So, be sure to impress (see: concern) your friends and family with your good taste! Makes a great stocking stuffer! (Not really.)

End of Shameless Self-Promotion Section!

The ITU and another play for internet legislation

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 20, 2012, 1:33 PM
First of all: Long time no see! I've been quite busy these days, and I'll be sure to make a post after Thanksgiving with updates on personal and art-related stuff. But as for this post, I'd like to share some interesting information that Google brought to my attention...

According to Google, The Internet Society, WhatIsTheITU.org, and ProtectInternetFreedom.org, an international organization called the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) is planning on holding a closed-door meeting to determine the future of the internet. This meeting will be held on December 3, 2012 with representatives from member-countries and various internet organizations. Several policies for censorship, architecture and freedom of information will be decided at this meeting, and only representatives from member-countries are allowed to vote on proposed changes to the 1988 treaty for International Telecommunications Regulation.

A few things should be understood about the ITU before jumping to any conclusions. This video does a better job of explaining things than I ever could: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOrKDq…

As Ms. Sally Shipman Wentworth states in the video, it is important for citizens of each member-country to let their governments know that they support innovation and an open internet that adheres to basic human rights laws and freedom of speech. In order to do this, you can go to this Google page and sign the Google petition, then follow links at the bottom of the page to other credible activist sites that will tell you how to take productive actions on this issue.

Please spread the word about the ITU, be informed about the potential for both positive and negative amendments to the ITR treaty of 1988, and speak out for the freedom of the internet!

Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 26, 2012, 12:18 PM
I just found this journal entry today: iandwalker.deviantart.com/jour…

This poor guy is about to be evicted from his apartment, but he doesn't have enough money to get a new place on short notice. He's trying to earn the money by doing bust commissions, so please help him out if you can. The details are in that journal entry.

His prices are very reasonable (only $10-$15), and the art is lovely. He's also accepting donations if you can't afford a full commission. Here's hoping he makes his goal. If not, at least he'll have some money to help him get back on his feet.

Computer Issues

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 17, 2012, 9:17 PM
I just finished restoring my system from an image file. This means I lost a couple of raw scans, but that can be easily remedied... I also lost the raw image file data for the stereoscopic redhead doodle and a fairy I was working on. At least I have the final files for the redhead, and the fairy was more of an experiment in openCanvas. Still, its very irritating.

Once again, I have to learn the hard way that backups should be done at least once a month (probably more like twice a month, or once a week). I'll ingrain that into my psyche one of these days.

Premium day?

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 19, 2012, 2:43 PM
I don't know what's going on anymore. DeviantART is suddenly generous, people don't know how the internet works, and I am living in a message board (Computer Ethics class, and everyone is screaming memes and Fusrodah and posting a million messages to the class' discussion board in the blink of an eye).

I... Think I'm going to lie down after class. Yes.

Just popping in for a quick status update:

But first, I'd like to direct everyone's attention to this journal entry - hellobaby.deviantart.com/art/A…
The girl mentioned in Hellobaby's journal is apparently considering suicide, as indicated in her tumblr posts. Several people are sending the girl messages in the hopes of preventing such a tragedy, so if you think you have something to say that would genuinely help, or just want to keep her in your thoughts and prayers, that would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes direct involvement can do more harm than good, so I wonder about the wisdom of sending preachy messages, but it never hurts to show this person that there are people who truly care. So I guess that as long as the message is genuine, it couldn't hurt...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a far lighter note, I'm done with Fall semester (finally), and will be posting art again by the end of the year. There's quite a bit to catch up on, so expect a stack sometime soon.

I hope everyone is having a good holiday season. This time of the year can cause a major influx in depression, so make sure to surround yourself with friends and loved ones, or to reach out to someone who may seem a little lonely.

PS - My journal skin is currently disabled until I can renew my dA premium membership, so please bear with this default green for now.

Update

Hm, where to begin... Its been an odd past few months, to say the least.

Since my last journal entry, I've been trying to cope with way too much going on at once. Sometimes too much of a good thing, sometimes too much of a bad thing (sometimes too much of a stupid thing too). In Spring of this year I was attempting to juggle a retail job, a job with a small game company, and full time school. Toward the start of Summer I quit my retail job to begin with the small game company full time. There was an abundance of work with lots of crazy deadlines, which was both good, bad and stupid all at once. When Summer finally began to wind down, the small game company did too, and not in a good way. I was unemployed from mid August till just this past Wednesday (September 21st). I'm now employed as a student assistant to my Programming I teacher, the sweet and unbelievably generous Ms. McClure. My life is finally getting just the right amount of several good things, including a relationship with a charming young gent by the name of Thomas, and just an overall sense of purpose that I haven't had in a long time.

In other words, everything is finally beginning to balance out. I'm approaching this new series of events with modesty and caution, as I know that nothing should ever be taken for granted. God has been good to me in a lot of ways, so I need to remain grateful.

So, I'm just going to close with saying this: Although things are starting to reach an even keel for me, I'm going to take baby steps and re-evaluate my priorities in work and with art for a bit. I just need to reorder my list of art tasks and chip away at them a little at a time while allocating time and energy to other unrelated tasks. I'm going to refrain from promising completion dates as it tends to cause me to procrastinate, as paradoxical as that may be. Just know that I'm working on stuff, in my own time, in whatever order will allow me to be productive without burning myself out.

Thank you to all of my recent visitors for stopping by, and thanks to all of my friends and watchers for providing me with cool artwork to look at while I've been in my own little art funk. I'll be posting again when I have more to show. Take care~

Update

I just have a final exam today at 1pm in Algebra, then I'll be free for the summer, and probably free for awhile past that.

I'm usually one of those students that likes to get really good grades, but this semester hasn't turned out so well in that department. I did well in my  Flash and Blender classes, and I had an Algebra class that I was doing great in for awhile, but two jobs proved to be too much of a distraction. My grades started suffering in Algebra (and I love math, so that irked me), and I kinda sorta forgot I had an online Art Appreciation class, so, uh, that one probably won't be a passing grade. I was sort of upset about that for a split second, but now I find it sort of funny. Oh well, I have a good job now, so I'm happy and feel very blessed to not have to worry about schooling as much.

This just means that I'll have my weekends back (finally), so I'll be trying to catch up on projects in my downtime. I swear I'll try to have something for posting soon...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other news, I'm doing commissions for people that donate to charitable organizations. It can be any humanitarian cause, really. The Red Cross and ASPCA are two good examples.

If you're interested, drop me a line here on dA (I'll probably miss emails).

Thanks for the consideration, and God bless.

Lots Going On, + Japan

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 23, 2011, 11:24 AM

Update

Hey all. Going to start a journal with a clean slate, meaning no to-dos and no goals (for the time being). I wanted to just say hi to everyone and apologize, yet again, for the absence on dA. Work has been eradicating my free time. But, I can't complain, since I'm doing work that I enjoy and am almost free of the work I hate.

To clarify, as some of you may recall, I'm working as a contract artist for Cerulean Games. I love the work, and there's lots of it. Its a budding company, so I have to make ends meet with a part time job at my long-time place of employment, Walgreens. (They are the devil). But! I probably won't have to work for Walgreens much longer. Things are going quite well with Cerulean, so I'll probably be full time with them soon. I hope... I'll be free of the retail demon by the end of April, regardless. ::dances::

I have a ton of new work I want to upload, but can't, since it would be a breach of my non-disclosure agreement. I'll get something up for you guys to look at soon, though... I also haven't forgotten my watcher appreciation mural, its just been pushed to the back burner (sorry...).

In other news, I want to do some commissions related to the ongoing nightmare in Japan. Read below for further details.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Like a lot of people on dA, I'm concerned for the people of Japan right now. I know a lot of people are sick of hearing it, but they really are in a desperate situation. Countless homeless and short on basic necessities, tens of thousands dead, and nuclear contamination of the water and air that will poison their drinking supply and induce birth defects for decades to come... The list of trials goes on and on.

There are a lot of people around the world facing equally horrific situations. I understand that. However, they are in areas of the world that are either unsafe for humanitarian organizations to work in, or are in countries under the rule of corrupt dictators that steal any humanitarian aid intended for the common people. In contrast, Japan is welcoming the aid of humanitarian organizations that want to fly in. Yes, many governments are sending financial assistance, but The Red Cross and other such organizations are trying to lend physical aid, which requires private donations.

I get that a lot of people are strapped for cash and can't afford to give much, which is understandable. Right now I'm wondering if I should be saving for trips and other expenses and instead give all of that money to the cause, but I know that is not realistic. I can't cease living my life, and no one else should either, but that doesn't mean we should do nothing for people that are suffering. Any small amount of money is helpful...

So, I'm going to attempt to do what I can by offering some commissions, with 100% of the net income going to The Red Cross.
All commissions will be sketches, for $5 a piece. You're free to donate more if you'd like. If you want to give the money directly to me or to The Red Cross (or any other reliable humanitarian organization), either is fine. Just show me a receipt proving you donated to help out Japan, and I'll draw you something.

Heck, show me a receipt that you donated to any humanitarian cause (poor people, the homeless, stopping animal abuse, etc), and I'll draw you something.

My only restriction is nothing pornographic or offensive. If you're interested, email me or send a message, and we can discuss the details.

Thanks for your time and consideration, and God bless the needy.

Withdrawn

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 13, 2011, 10:15 AM

Update

Just wanted to say hi to people, Happy (Belated) Birthday to sweet :iconteh-kaku:, and sorry yet again for the extended absence. I'm going to be taking time today to compile all of the stuff I want to post on dA, as well as some time to work on past due presents to some sweet friends. I doubt I'll finish all of it today, but I will have at least something to show by the end of the day.

Also, I'll be moving to Colorado later this year.

That is all~

-------

In other news, I'm still offering commissions. I'll open up three slots to start with, and consider expanding on that if all goes well. Here are some examples with pricing. Bare in mind that these are free sketches I've done in the past, and that I'll put in more effort for a paying customer:

--$10 Sketches (one-two characters)--
Dante - Huntress is Lazy by BlueSaved Prince and Princess by BlueSaved Foxxy by BlueSaved He Doesn't Bite - For Yugure by BlueSaved Wooly by BlueSaved

--$20 Sketches (three or more characters)--
WuFalcon Scrolling Image by BlueSaved Alternate Ending Line Art by BlueSaved Flowers by BlueSaved

--$35 Colored Digitally (single character)--
TessaTessaTessa... by BlueSaved Marcoh - Finished by BlueSaved Dragoon Preview part 2 by BlueSaved

--Commission Slots--
1. [Open]
2. [Open]
3. [Open]

I'll draw pretty much anything that's PG13... Violence and blood is alright in moderate amounts, but nothing R-rated, nothing pornographic, and no yaoi/yuri. At the moment I can only take PayPal, so hopefully that's not a problem for anyone... Send me a note with references if you're interested. The commissions are to earn money for several important things, college and moving being at the top of the list, so please help me get some extra work if you're able.

And that's my shameless begging for the day. God bless~

Tasks

  • Finish commission for my manager (55% completed),
  • Make a list of owed images and prioritize according to who's been waiting longest (need to put that list up on this journal),
  • Work on character sheets for Orlanin (making steady progress),
  • Create thumbnails for Orlanin's comic pages.

Goals

  • Do more commissions [Commission meeee, info found in entry above],
  • Improve on foreshortening and extreme perspective skills [Making progress],
  • Increase overall speed [Making progress],
  • Make practice sketches daily that have nothing to do with my current projects [Currently meeting goal, sort of]

Update

Hey people, sorry for the radio silence. First and foremost: I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/New Years/etc! Indulge in fatty foods and quality time with your loved ones! And since I'm a Christian, a big Happy Birthday is in order for Jesus, even though he wasn't really born this time of year, but hey, you have to pick a day for celebrating.

School has been out for a couple of weeks now, but I've been pretty busy. The biggest time eater has been work, but for once I'm not talking about evil Walgreens. ::shudders::

When I say work, I'm referring to my contract with Cerulean Games. They've signed me on as a royalty artist~ I'm not allowed to show any materials related to games in development, but as soon as a game is released, you guys will get to see the art I'm working on. I'm not hired on as a permanent artist with them as of yet, but if all goes well I may have the honor of joining their team. There are some exciting things in the works, and I'm itchin' to share it, but not just yet...

Back to work on sketches and whatnot. Everyone have a safe and super fun Christmas and holiday season!

... when I said I'd do a livestream and it never happened? Yeah, I suck like that. But I'm going to do an impromptu stream right now while I work on homework. I'm taking an OC of mine and adapting her for a detective game, and right now I'm working on her portrait. Come and take a look if you're interested~

God bless~

Wearing Purple

Update

I'm glad deviantART is supporting anti-bullying efforts. But... This has always been a huge problem in our public schools, for all age groups. And not just over the issue of sexual orientation. I wish people had taken the time to do something about this several decades ago. The only time people start to care is when an issue has been sensationalized in the media... Its like the damn "go green" movement. The environment has been abused for a long time, but people only think its worth their attention when a trendy slogan and a color are assigned to the issue.

Why am I so irritable over "Show Your Purple"? Because in the end, I don't think its going to change a thing. People will wear purple, hold rallies to state the obvious ("bullying is bad!"), then teachers won't even take notice or take action when real bullying occurs. That would require a spine, and people seem to lose their courage when they have to put up or shut up and stand up for what's right. I've seen it first-hand.

When I was in high school I knew a girl with down syndrome. She was sweet and childlike, and just as intelligent as everyone else, yet much more naive and easily provoked. The guys in our classes thought it was funny to piss her off by calling her childish names and making her argue with them or chase them. The teachers were right there, witnessing each act of bullying, but they just didn't feel like intervening. They probably thought it was harmless teasing, but to that disabled girl, it was torment that she had to endure on a daily basis. I had to attempt to be the adult in that situation and either pull the girl away from her tormentors, or (fail) to try and talk some common sense into the bullies.

To put an end to bullying, we don't need to wear a colored shirt or hold a rally. We need to have the fortitude to stand up to bullying and righteous anger to serve as our motivation. We seem to forget about tragedies within five years of their occurrence (Columbine, anyone?), so all of this media attention won't mean a thing if we don't have the inner qualities necessary to back up what we claim to believe in.
