These look great :) I've always used synthetic whalebone [link] for my corsets, simply becasue I've never been able to find anywhere in the UK that sells the very large cable ties. I get my synthetic whalebone from venacavadesign.com which is the best place for corset supplies I've ever found and is a huge favourite with many corset creators in Europe :D

Its super easy to use  plus getting it in a continuous length means there's never any wastage.

Oh, they're holding up very well! I actually just bought some more to make either effigy stays or a new pair of rococo stays. They're a dream come true! Thank you!

Boned with cable ties? How has that worked out for you? (I'm a beginning corsetmaker with no budget and I've had all kinds of horrible trouble with the plastic boning sold by the yard so I was looking for an alternative that might work better...)

yeah, don't buy labeled plastic boning such as ridgeline, it sucks to hell and offers no support whatsoever. Many costumers use steel boning, spring and plain, for their work, but beyond 1860 it's historically inaccurate and bloody expensive to boot. As for me, I'm a lover of cable ties. Cable ties are an excellent alternative as they are much closer to baleen in weight and flexibility and it's the friend of every pauper seamstress as it's pretty cheap and you can find packets of it at Home Depot. There's a great article on it by Sarah Lorraine of La Mode Historique [link] who is a very prestigious figure in the costuming world. I think it's mentioned in the article, but go for the heavy duty cable ties, not the tiny flimsy crap otherwise you'll be reliving your moments with the ridgeline.

Right nice pair of stays. kudos.
What pattern did ye use?
The gold satin adds a loverly touch to it.
BTW, fabulous background. Rather envious of th' Colonial style home there. :)
And, aye, I'll agree with ye... stays are time consuming. Not all the difficult but time consuming. Working on my second and third pair right now.

Much obliged. I borrowed a pair from costumes.org. Indeed they consumed many a long hour to construct. I await the images of your stays with great anticipation.
