So I burned half of my eyebrow today working with a kiln.

Inhaled probably somewhere close to a gallon of burning smoke.

Had tears streaming down my face from the stinging smoke.

And walked away with two amazing raku pieces of pottery.

Worth it.

Oh, also, I got accepted to a four year university to continue with my teaching degree, and am graduating with my Associate's Degree on May 17. It took a lot of work to get here, and this semester was especially hard on me just emotionally and physically. And you know what, it truly feels like I earned this. I earned every fucking second of it.

OMG I love Raku!! The white crackle glaze, the irridescent glaze (I swear those are the only two raku glazes I have ever seen used), the smell of burnt ceramic for years to come whenever you take the piece down to look at. Or seeing the red hot pieces come out of the kiln and get thrown into the trash... I mean paper and leaves in metal trash cans :P.

My ceramic teacher in college had a small kiln on wheels for that, with a flame thrower to heat up the kiln. It was really awesome the one time we used it. Someday I plan on doing my own raku fire just to be able to play with a gas fed flame thrower. MUAHAHAHA!

ALSO OH MY RAKU GOODNESS! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

That is so awesome (more awesome then a time traveling train ran by a black hole filly with a raku kiln in the front of it). It is a little belated of congratulations, but it is like wine... the longer you wait the more awesome it is... unless you wait a thousand years and it all turns into vinegar... but since it is only a few days it should still be good!

*massive uber glomp of uber doooooom! with gold flakes of confetti and diamonds and sparklers and flame throwers!*

JUST THREE MORE DAYS OMG. I wish I could come down and be there for that. Are you going through the whole ceremony shebang?

Also, CONGRATS. That's a hell of an accomplishment, both the Associate's degree and the acceptance to uni, and you DID earn it! You worked your ass off, and you should be proud of everything!

Um, but eyebrow = ouch. *gives you burn balm* Now you can be all fancy and point to it and say you suffered for your art, though. You can sell your pottery for a million dollars. Because you fucking suffered for it. The ashes of that lost eyebrow are in your work. *hardcore artist brofist!*

The worst I've ever gotten is a papercut. And that one time I stabbed myself in the hand with a pencil lead. I wouldn't call that suffering for my art so much as just suffering for my own hapless, accident-prone stupidity. :B

Dude, I haven't commented on, like, anything, anywhere, in forever.

LOOOLLLL. Yes. My eyebrows. Are in. My pottery. That is fucking hilarious. Would you like to buy my eyebrow? One million dollars. I'll take credit.

Thank you so much for the grats. It really was a struggle to get here -and funnily enough- after every semester it never seemed like I'd done anything notable, you know? But here at the end of the finish line it's like, fucking shit, that was a marathon.

Things have been quiet everywhere. Getting to be that time of year, though, where the noise level really does pick up. Summer! Aww yeah.
