Data lossage

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 15, 2011, 10:10 AM

I've lost about 25 different WIP art projects from a hard drive burn-out fiasco.

My writing projects I have lost number in the 90s.

And both of those dont even include the thousands of documents and artwork I have completed for my own. Jesus fucking Christ.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

FUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!

Oh man that stinks! *hugs and loves* Even though I'm really late commenting (I finally caught up with dA stuff from when I was out of town at the beginning of this month).

*lots more hugs and loves*

*Hugs hugs* Yeah, it sucks to look for something like a character app for a character I haven't yet posted only to realize I dont have it anymore. :(

A virus. :| From a respectable website nonetheless. WAHT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT?! Totally wiped everything out to the point I had to rectify the problem- and, well, subsequently delete all of my data after thinking I had backed it up. (Told my firewall to block ALL internet access to stop the virus, backed up my data on dropbox -which syncs from your desktop to an online folder- and then rehauled it...without giving access to the internet back.) It really is mostly my fault but - FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Replying to my own message x.x

I don't want to get your hopes too high, but I've has SOME luck with REMO Recovery. It does work with crashed drives. [link]

I'd suggest the free trial to see what (if anything)it can find before buying. (And on that note e-mail me before you do *wink*)

No D: I dont thing there is anything I can do for this one. Of course, I could always ask- but I am 99% sure it's irreversible.

Holy shit, that's awful!

I can scan through my email for anything I might have that you've sent me. I don't think there was much, but there might be some fic and notes. I wish there was more I could do.

Thanks Scy. I'm fairly certain that I probably have some in my sent folder as well- but I do know I sent some stuff in chat (like via photobucket). If you've saved any strange junk I'd be happy to get it back- might be some important crap I shared at some point that could at least give me a leg up on recreating a project or two.

*Weary sigh*

That is a horrible thing to have happen, I'm sorry. :(

I had the same thing happen 2 years ago. My 8 year-old harddrive finally failed and I thought I had lost everything. I ended up shipping my drive to a company that specializes in data-retrieval and the technicians had to open up my drive in a special clean room to salvage my data. It was very expensive, about $800, but they managed to save everything, so it was worth it to me in the end. ^^;

The company I went to was Gillware - [link]

I had the same thing happen to me a year or two ago with a very old hard drive, and it's still in my closet waiting for me to get it restored. This new one, however, cant be salvaged I dont think. Rather than just burning out (and not turning on or starting up), it's like the whole entire 'windows' has been erased. In order to use the computer I reinstalled the OS (windows xp) and I'm afraid the stuff is gone forever. :[

I almost 100% sure it was a virus I got. Looking at Biolife's website and thinking about donating plasma when BAM! Crazy virus out of freakin' nowhere. Obliterated everything.

Wow a virus attack sounds really scary, I'm so sorry that happened. ):
It made me paranoid about backing data up and I use a site called Sugar Sync [link] It automatically backs up all my writing and artwork online for a small monthly fee, but there are free plans as well. It gives me a peace of mind in case of catastrophic failure. ^^;

Another site is called Drop Box [link] It's slightly more expensive and doesn't have as many features as Sugar Sync.

Ohh, thank you for those sites! I have a drop box account- and I actually DID back my stuff up- only I'd forgotten at the time that I had disabled internet access because of the virus. So just when I backed EVERYTHING up on my desktop dropbox the virus crippled the system altogether and I just got rid of it all (thinking it was all backed up online) only to discover......yeah.

I'll look into Sugar Sync- it sounds well worth whatever it costs.

I used to have Drop Box when I was still running XP, but I don't think it behaved well for me for some reason...hmmm.

Anyway, I hope that Sugar Sync may be useful to you. It's nice not to have to worry about lost files. :D

hey my pc literally exploded a while back and the hubby was able to save almost all my files. It took some work but a good IT guy (which my hubs happens to be) might be able to salvage something.

I'm pretty good at restoring stuff as well, but the perimeter on which my OS was installed was completely obliterated. I have no idea if that can be repaired at all.

I was at school and I and some friends was supposed to go from our homeroom to a different one and I was the last one to go thourogh the door so I had to close it, but I did not have enugh hands to both hold my computer,school books and my tablet and close the F***ing door, so it all dropped on the floor.....:( and then all my data got crushed in the fall.

And then I bought myself a new computer,I installed all my programs on it,but after a week I had to get a new one. Beacose it stopped working. I got a new one form the store,and I installed my programs again, but this one also needed to go back to the store..after a whole weekend I got it back and then the computer problem was over :) Thank god!!
