Methy Map Timeline

Creation

Methy was originally very green. It was colder than it is now. Northern arctic regions were just as harsh as they are on Earth. Deep seas supported all sorts of life and the northers parts of Erratu/Aiyoshoba were great places for fishing communities and animals that preferred shallower water. The rainforest in Erratu covered most of the continent, with smaller forests covering the rest. There was little grassland on Erratu, but it was plentiful on Orsan.

Koa'nesk War

Terrans ended the war with a bang by using their ship’s heat canon to destroy the Koa’nesk’s capitol and ship. The sudden heat and concussive force caused volcanoes to erupt, spewing gas and pyroclastic material into the air. In addition the excess heat added to the greenhouse effect when the volcanic clouds blocked the sun, and the ocean surrounding the Koa’nesk ship dried up. Over the next decade, the forests near the water which enjoyed the humid climate began to die. Ocean plants now exposed to the sun, easy dried up.

Drought

Animals that could not adapt to arid places went south, hoping to find food. Climate change even reached the rainforest. Acres of forest dried up, and hasn’t been able to replenish its once great size since. 

When the changes had subsided, the damage was done. The huge exodus disrupted native ecosystems in new areas, forcing even more animals to flee. With new populations came new disease. With little food came famine. Only shrubs could sustain themselves in the north. People became nomads, as resources weren’t as plentiful as they used to be. Mages with the right magic were able to keep small oasis going. In the arctic regions, snows melted and floods began. The snows didn’t come and drought gripped the world in cycles.  

Pirates were plentiful. War was over and soldiers with no where to turn stole for a living. Wild dragons stole from farmers like in the old days. Some dragons and pirates even banded together. It was a time of social upheaval in Erratu.

Modern

Currently, Methy has had time to heal. Continents have changed and people have adapted. The planet is now overall warmer than it originally was, but global temperatures are starting even out now. Many places are regrowing the forest they lost.
