The Etzur The Etzur are ancient, tree-born beings of Solithra, born from the Creator’s tears that fell upon the world after the extinction of the great dinosaur Orins. They rose from soil and seed in the Verdant Restoration, a time when the land was healing from fire and ruin. To many, they are the quietest miracle—creatures that do not rule or hunt, but remember. An Etzur can stand motionless for centuries, rooted deep into the earth, their bark indistinguishable from the trees around them. Yet beneath that stillness lies a mind that never sleeps, one that listens to the heartbeat of the world.
In their humanoid form, an Etzur resembles a towering, deerlike figure—graceful yet unsettling. Their bodies are woven from bark and vine, muscles of twisted root moving with creaks like bending branches. Their eyes are large and round, glowing softly in shades that shift with their emotion: green for calm, amber for thought, red for grief or fury. Their faces hold a snout-like shape, gentle and animalistic, and their heads are often crowned by antlers of carved wood or flowering branches. When they transform from tree to being, they do so by untwisting their limbs, the sound like wood splitting after rain; when they return to stillness, they tuck in those same limbs, becoming once again part of the forest.
Etzurs are deeply patient, slow to act, and slower still to anger. They can communicate through voice—low, creaking, and resonant—or by subtler means: the rustle of their leaves, the pattern of falling pollen, or the scent of sap. They are capable of love and family, mating to produce saplings, who are born small but mobile, already aware and curious. Mothers carry their young within their branches, keeping them close as they learn to listen to the rhythms of the forest.
Though peaceful, Etzurs have known grief. When Solosus walked the earth, they wept before him for the harm Orins had done to their kin. Yet his warmth and forgiveness softened their hearts, and they came to see the good that could live even in those who destroy. Today, they watch civilizations from afar—guardians of the untouched wilds. Their only enduring tension lies with the Gigorins, whose use of wood often offends them. While Etzurs are not angered by dead timber, Gigorins rarely check before they cut, and too often an axe bites into living flesh.
To the Etzur, time is not a river but a forest—vast, layered, eternal. They are the memory of Solithra made flesh and bark, standing as silent witnesses to every age that has passed beneath their roots.
