After shaking the rain from his fur, Orion turned and saw Rorin kneeling beside the darkest wall in the room. The droplets were still beading off his vest and forming small divots in the sandy soil that was collecting in piles along the walls of the alcove they’d sheltered in. Curious, Orion joined him and quickly realized what had caught Rorin’s attention so swiftly upon their entrance. They were not the first inhabitants of the Aqtuquaq to take shelter in the cave. Nestled in the dust and shadows, were the long decaying remains of baskets or fishing traps made from woven reeds and beside them sat small terracotta bowls, still stacked, waiting for their maker to return from the stream with water to wash them. The plan had been - at least in the beginning - for Stray to get through the desert in one relatively fell swoop. He's so close to one of his goals - reuniting a rukaan with their long lost soon. There's still some nudging to do to make sure both of them are prepared for the emotions that come with such things. A sandstorm wrecked that plan. Maybe - just maybe - Stray's narrowed focus was a major factor in the way he didn't even notice the sandstorm until it was too late. He'd noticed the sky getting darker, sure - but he'd written it off as the passage of time. He'd been half right. If nothing else, Lasthope Oasis is the kind of place that's easy to find even with sand buffeting your body so hard that you swear you can feel it coating your lungs. There is a particular decision that Amaranth has been… putting off for lack of a better term. It knows that at this point, the choice should be plenty easy even. Should being the operative word. Ever since they came through the portal, Amaranth has been chewing on that very decision. It watches Sólmyrkvi and Echo relax more and more as they get away from the island and dragon's lair and back to… well, the mainland. A Much Needed Challenge

After that nonsense with the bulky rukaan who called themself Frostbite, Amaranth briefly considers leaving and trying another time. But it is nothing if not stubborn, and the whole reason it came here was to shut them up. Leaving won't do that. There's a feat that sounds like a real challenge for it. Tomtar topping, getting assigned a specific tomte and having to keep them away from the rest of the competitions. But having to do so without killing or harming the tomte at all. That latter part is what makes this one sound so interesting to it - Amaranth is well aware that it focuses a lot on killing and harming as ways to handle issues. Those ways are amazing, but it needs a challenge. Something that'll keep its attention far better than everything else that's going on right now. The organizers are a little skeptical when Amaranth signs up, well aware of its reputation. It points out that it didn't hurt Frostbite despite the big rukaan's actions and that's enough to get it cleared

After that nonsense with the bulky rukaan who called themself Frostbite, Amaranth briefly considers leaving and trying another time. But it is nothing if not stubborn, and the whole reason it came here was to shut them up. Leaving won't do that. There's a feat that sounds like a real challenge for it. Tomtar topping, getting assigned a specific tomte and having to keep them away from the rest of the competitions. But having to do so without killing or harming the tomte at all. That latter part is what makes this one sound so interesting to it - Amaranth is well aware that it focuses a lot on killing and harming as ways to handle issues. Those ways are amazing, but it needs a challenge. Something that'll keep its attention far better than everything else that's going on right now. The organizers are a little skeptical when Amaranth signs up, well aware of its reputation. It points out that it didn't hurt Frostbite despite the big rukaan's actions and that's enough to get it cleared
