Okay so I’ve made a couple doodles of this before but BNHA AU Companions of Dreams peeps!
I refined their quirks and designs a bit!
Arael’s quirk is Accelerated Calculation. He can predict what someone is doing/going to do maybe half a second before they do it.
It’s such a short window of foresight, outside of close combat it’s pretty useless (he’d beg to disagree with how many times he’s avoid something getting spilled on him or narrowly missed getting his hair slammed in a car door).
It usually happens in flashes, kind of a like a sudden “idea!” moment- the reason for that is it can only function when his eyes are closed. (So when he blinks!)
Of course, for prolonged use, he can just close his eyes and sit and pretty much figure out what’s happening around him that way.
Advantage of it that would make him a useful hero is he can always stay one step ahead of whoever is against him- if he could fight with his eyes closed.
Yeah, that’s a disadvantage if there ever was one. Imagine such a useful combat quirk with such a crucial flaw!
Except he has the perfect partner.
Thalia’s quirk is basic, but classic. She’s got enhanced agility and strength. (“Hazel, sweetie, please stop calling it Sicko Mode.”)
Thanks to her dedication, she’s gotten to a point where the skills that come with such a quirk have been honed to near perfection. She thought she was as good as she could get until she met this cute skinny nerd at a training camp- when she was doing some practice sparring with another kid, she noticed him sitting in the group of spectators with his eyes closed, mumbling and pointing-
And it was matching up with her opponent’s moves.
Curious and intrigued, she picked him for partner practice; everyone was pretty surprised since nobody was exactly sure how they’d mix. Especially not Arael.
But she smiled at him and told him to sit as far from the combat as he could while remaining within earshot and just shout what was next to her so she could block.
He thought it was crazy, because he wasn’t sure her reflexes could act within such a small window- but they pulled it off!
Later, she told him that once they were professionals, they needed to find each other and team up permanently, because that was AMAZING.
Years later, they did!
Nowadays, it’s a bit smoother- Arael usually goes somewhere relatively concealed and communicates with Thalia through an earpiece. His visor blacks out too, so he can REALLY focus.
She’s gotten better at just putting blind trust in him too, and with that edge it makes it seem like he’s just a weird manager with an invincible star he’s motivating from the sidelines.
Well, whatever the public speculates their deal to be, they’re good at it, and it works.
Side effects of prolonged use for the two of them are pretty bothersome. Thalia tends to get super sore after a long fight (she really likes hot baths to negate it, but don’t be completely disgusted if you see her chugging pickle juice from a jar, it really helps!)
Meanwhile, Arael usually can’t sleep about 24 hours after over 5 minutes of it- every time he closes his eyes, his brain seems to go back into reflex panic mode and he has to get up and do something else to soothe his mind.
Occasionally an interviewer makes the playful comment they’re a cute couple- they deny it.
“We work together professionally because our quirks compliment each other in combat scenarios.”
“Yeah, honestly your assumption is pretty shallow. Can men and women not work side by side in a business setting without someone saying it’s secretly romantic?”
But yeah they’re totally already in love and gonna get married soon nyehehehehe
(There have been a lot of late nights spent having long conversations after a battle breaking out that day- when Arael can’t sleep Thalia tries to stay up with him! He tells her not to but deep down really appreciates it.)
I need to do something with Hazel’s design too but they’re a student for sure, and I think their quirk is gonna be something like what the pendant does- so something kind of between healing and calming?
