World of Warcraft sub-race suggestion: Half-orc by Blue-Uncia World of Warcraft sub-race suggestion: Half-orc by Blue-Uncia

Photoshop and drawingtablet

I made this with my cat's butt covering half my tablet, and with him pawing at my pen as I drew. Cats are jerks. But that's nothing new.

Time for something completely different. A while ago, some dude working for Blizzard said during an interview that they might be interested in adding playable sub-races to World of Warcraft. Some day. Maybe. If the planets align and I win the lottery.

Ever since then there have been various suggestions for sub-races from players, ranging from Dragonmaw and Mag'Har Orcs, to Wildhammer and Dark Iron Dwarfs, High Elves, Taunka, Broken Draenei, Undead Elves, Revantusk Trolls, etc.

Me, I've got a thing for human-orc hybrids, even though they don't seem to be that popular:
It's a long-shot, I know. Everything requiring brand-new models is. ;P

Still, I can always hope.

Physical attributes:
Canonically any half-orc, regardless of what race the non-orc parent belonged to, seems to have predominantly orcish features. I decided to stick with that too, but with a few differences:

:bulletred: Half-orcs tend to be more slender and less muscular than a full-blood orc, with finer hands and fingers
:bulletred: Their foreheads, noses, chins and cheeks are shaped more like those of humans
:bulletred: The ears are shorter and less pointy
:bulletred: While they have sharp teeth, the lower canines are shorter
:bulletred: Males stand up-right (because if the male orc won't stand upright, at least the half-orc will, dang it!)
:bulletred: Hair colour is very varied and includes shades that are unique to humans (like blond and ginger), and / or unique to orcs (like dark blue and purple)
:bulletred: Skin colour tends to be a mix of both parents, with the orcish skin tone usually being dominant. However, some half-orcs may be almost human looking
:bulletred: Both orcs and humans think half-orcs are ugly as sin

:bulletred: Half-orcs tend to not be welcomed by either humans or orcs, due to the conflict that exists between both factions. This may fill some half-orcs with a profound sense of self loathing
:bulletred: Alternatively, they may become extremely outgoing and rash, seeking to prove their worth in the eyes of the parent race they most identify with
:bulletred: For the sake of illustration, the depicted male is Alliance-raised, while the female is Horde-raised. Clothing, hair styles, piercings and other body modifications may be chosen to further emphasize their chosen identity
:bulletred: Some half-orcs feel that in fact they belong to neither faction, and may choose to affiliate themselves only very loosely with the warring factions. This seems like the perfect mentality for mercenary adventurers (i.e. players), to me at least ...

:bulletred: Available as a sub-race to both humans and orcs, meaning that they are available to both the Alliance and the Horde
:bulletred: Horde half-orcs speak Orcish, Alliance half-orcs speak Common
:bulletred: Regardless of their faction, all half-orcs are considered members of the same "species", so an NPC might say "Hail, half-orc!" instead of greeting them as a human or an orc (this is not necessarily the case for other sub-races, like the Wildhammer Clan)
:bulletred: Alliance half-orcs can choose all the same classes as humans, while Horde half-orcs have the same class options as orcs
:bulletred: Racials: This one is a bit tricky. They could either be the same as humans (Alliance-side), and orcs (Horde-side), or they could be traded around, giving Alliance half-orcs the orc racials, and Horde ones the human racials. Thoughts?
:bulletred: Alliance half-orcs may buy horses without needing to be exalted with Stormwind. Horde half-orcs are welcome to use wolves

I think Half-Orcs should be a thing too. Out of all the fantasy races Orc is my favorite.

Looking at it again, I think the female turned out a bit too much like the orc female. A bit smaller an lither might be better. :P
