Kulam sa Ulap
The title translates to something like cloud witchcraft. Ten years ago, I did a series of drawings which were the result of my fascination with creatures and beings from Philippine Mythology. I've taken to coloring them recently, and this is my own fanciful depiction of a witch from the tribe of cloud folk living in the clouds. She's holding a walis - the Filipino word for broom; more specifically, a walis tambo, which has softer brush-like bristles and is used indoors (as compared to the walis tingting, which has much harder bristles, and is used outdoors and has functions a bit similar to a rake).

Agtayabun
Agtayabun is a "higher" order god in one of the various creation myths of the many tribes of the Philippines. There were three primordial beings in the creation myth of the Talaandig tribe from Bukidnon, Philippines. One was a representation of Chaos called Gumagang-aw (not necessarily evil) while the other god, Magbabaya, was a god of life (and order - at least this is sort of implied), etc. Agtayabun was sort of the middle man, a god of peace. His form was that of a humanoid bird-man hybrid. He had vast wings which could support the two other gods and, as both were needed for creation to occur, Agtayabun was the sort of brige between the two. This is another 10 year old drawing from the stash of drawings I did which I recently uncovered.

Maria Dalambanga
Maria Dalambanga - I think is an aspect of the Filipino mountain Goddess, Maria Makiling, who presides over her sacred mountain, Mount Makiling. I think her name means something like, Maria Who Leans, but maybe also because many try to woo her, Maria Who Favors (the root word of Makiling being kiling - to lean towards, but is also used to denote favoring something). Dalambanga literally means carrying an earthenware water jar. Dalambanga supposedly relates to the legend of how the town of Calamba, Laguna was made. This is another decade-old drawing which I recently colored. I tried an older coloring method here, which is much more time-consuming, but has its merits in achieving a more painterly style.

A Star Maiden of Philippine Mythology
Colored another drawing I drew over a decade ago, a part of a stash of drawings I unearthed recently. This features one of the "star folk" of Philippine Mythology. Philippine mythology has several related and unrelated myths of ""people of the stars". One of them features a lake on top of a mountain, where star maidens fly down to it (I imagine looking like comets, with their hair streaming behind them) to bathe. They remove their wings off their backs (the wings are apparently detachable!) and leave these on the banks of the lake so they won't get wet. One time, a man chanced upon the maidens bathing and hid a pair of wings. One maiden got left behind because she couldn't fly back home, and was courted by the man. They eventually got married and had children, but the woman, after many years, discovered where her wings were hidden, and flew back to her home in the sky. There's so much more details to the story but my books on the subject are currently boxed away, so I can't skim over them to eleborate on the story some more. :-/

I didn't know how star folks' wings were supposed to look like, so I just made one up. The earthenware (celestialware? LOL) pot on top of her head contains collected starlight. I don't know why. :D
