Orbital Confinement

Painted for the After the end-contest over at The-Imaginarium!

The hyperbasic idea behind it: a species drove its home planet's ecosystem way beyond its limits which resulted in a global mass extinction and making it uninhabitable for millenia to come. However, as with any advanced society, a few lucky individuals were a little more priviledged than others: instead of perishing like their plebeian brethren, they escaped in small, habitable bubble-prototypes that were launched into orbit and providing basic nourishment via photosynthesis, resource recovery systems, and other fancy shenanigans. Having no proper propulsion system installed, these bubbles confine their cargo to a very limited space for virtually an eternity. The physical sustainability should not be an issue, but about the mental aspect... maybe a swift end might have been the better choice?
