It was a strange and repulsive sight: a gigantic life-giving organ, pulsing and quivering. This terrible tumour was becoming ever more visible: a living membrane entangled with veins, tiny black figures crawling out, running about in a businesslike way, like ants...

Artyom never had to deal with a pack of hunting predators before, but for some reason he had no doubts that the creatures were preparing to attack. It was time to act. Turning sharply around, he shouldered his machine gun and caught one of the dark figures in its sight.

excerpt from: Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky

Upon popular demand, here's the promised post-apocalyptic piece. It's loosely based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's book "Metro 2033" (yes, I'm referring to the book, not the video game); I was not entirely sure which theme to pick, so I ended up mixing a few together: The main protagonist roaming the streets and encountering one of the dark ones at the botanical garden.

I quite enjoyed reading this, so if you're somewhat into dystopic novels, this could be of your interest. It basically talks about humanity's remains after a nuclear war and how they try to survive against the creatures that have popped up due to mutation thanks to radiation. The surviving people have moved into the subway-stations and try to live their lives there.

Well, I hope this piece is to your delight. I'd be more than happy about a comment or fav. Enjoy! :)

Oh, by the way, I saved this into different PSDs during the process. Means: if you're interested, I can do a walkthrough ;)

Technical facts:
- Original size: 3750x5000
- Photoshop CS3
- Working time: 20-30h
- The previous excerpt is a little mash-up of different passages. You won't find them in this order ;p

The sceenary itself is incorrect. Just the Ostankino is far from Red Square. But if the art relates to the alternative history - ok, well even a bit amusing and naive))))

You're absolutely right! I've never been to Moscow myself and while painting, didn't have a working internet connection to actually verify the locations of Ostankino and St. Basil's; these were just the first two buildings that popped up in my head thinking of Moscow. Looking back, it does look a bit cheesy :p

Thanks a lot for sharing your insight! :)

I love this chapter!
The predators are really scary and intense if imagine them in your head..... And the way they keep moving with Artyom, it gives me the creeps

One of the best passages of the book, for sure! The only one being above that is, in my opinion, the final chapter where Artyom starts to understand his "visions".
