It's 'Happy Girl' from Daria as Empowered from the comic book Empowered!
This image is done in the spirit of the Daria end credit sequence.

Happy Girl is a non-speaking background character who attends Lawndale High with Daria. Some of her notable appearances are in the episode "See Jane Run" when she is seen signing up for track team try outs causing the Fashion Club to openly mock her ("You're supposed to DATE jocks, not BE one!") and in the episode "Fair Enough" where she has her fortune read by Ms. Barch which makes her run away in tears. Here is her entry on the Backgrounders fan site, which is sadly only accessible via the Wayback Machine: web.archive.org/web/2011071806…

Empowered is a comic book written and drawn by Adam Warren for Dark Horse Comics. The character of Empowered wears a skin tight supersuit that gives her powers which she uses to fight evil. However, the supersuit is incredibly fragile and can rip or tear very easily, drastically lowering its abilities and creating some goofy, scantily clad situations. NOT A KIDS' COMIC!

Why Happy Girl as Empowered? Well, other than the obvious long, blond hair, Happy Girl's persistently, well, happy attitude reminded me of Empowered and how she seems to try to maintain a positive outlook and refusal to give up.

This image is en homage to the cover of Empowered volume 1, seen here on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Empowered-1-Ada…

Yep she is the girl that refuses to let dieting Mean Girls with internalized sexism and bitter, man-hating teachers get her down!

She kind of looks like Tory who is in one the volleyball team with Stacy & Daria in the opening title. This Tory girl also appeared in 'The Invitation'. She's the one whom while over at Brittany's kept pointing out who all was popular and who wasn't.

Yeah. That's right. Is that who this is in the deviation pic?

Happy Girl (dressed as Empowered above) never speaks, except to cry in "Fair Enough." Tori Jericho (dressed as the Game of Thrones character in the link) speaks at Brittany's party about popularity, but never again. They are two different people. I'm not sure if I answered your question or not... I'm kind confused. I use the backgrounders website for reference on all of the Daria background characters. web.archive.org/web/2011071704… Tori is listed as #5 and Happy Girl is #9.

Oh okay. I remember the part where Stacy started bawling hysterically on the Ferris wheel with Jane & Daria.

Thank you! I find Empowered (both the comic and the character) very endearing.

I love when somebody gives 'Empowered' the nod.

Nothing like an under-rated animated giving homage to an under-rated graphic :)
