I spent the whole night talking to a bird who wouldn't sing. I stayed awake to try and see it fly. It wasn't that it couldn't; It told me that it shouldn't. It didn't want to have to say goodbye. I gave it love and patience, and through my own complacence, I woke up with a start at beating wings. I caught a glimpse of fiery red, it dove into the night. And I've still yet to hear it sing.
