The Fox and the Crow

By blindedangel
My last project in illustration: fables and fairytales. This is one of Aesop's fables. Not familar with this one?

It goes:
A Fox once saw a Crow fly off with a piece of cheese in its beak and settle on a branch of a tree. "That's for me, as I am a Fox," said the fox, and he walked up to the foot of the tree.
"Good-day, Mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you are looking to-day: how glossy your feathers; how bright your eye. I feel sure your voice must surpass that of other birds, just as your figure does. Let me hear but one song from you that I may greet you as the Queen of Birds."
The Crow lifted up her head and began to caw her best, but the moment she opened her mouth the piece of cheese fell to the ground, only to be snapped up by Master Fox.
"That will do," said he. "That was all I wanted. In exchange for your cheese I will give you a piece of advice for the future ."Do not trust flatterers."

Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoy it! :)
Hello,

I work at an education company that puts together testing material for common core standards (like the one below):

Analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, tone, or beauty of a text (e.g., graphic novel, multimedia presentation of fiction, folktale, myth, poem).

Would you be willing to donate your image for our use if we credit you by name?

If not, no problem... but I thought I would ask, since your image would be be a great one for students to analyze alongside the text of the fable...

Thanks,
Amy

Amy, I might be willing to donate the image if I had some more information on the education company and the extent to which it will be used. You can also contact me via email lisa@paynefulart.com

That was my all time fave bed time story! I would make my parents read it over and over again! lol...I love the image. The expression on the foxes face is awesome! great detail. It looks real, and of course, fake at the same time!

To echo many others, I like the fox's expression. I also like how the crow is upside down, sortof. The pose is not unrealistic, and it creates a closer connection b/t the two animals while using the space well.

wonderful interpretation! It brings back memories of a child growing up in Russia, my mom used to read me the story all the time. You truly have an impressive and...unique gallery. It is so full of light. I think thats what impresses me most, your use of light. I have always had the same fascination..though I don't think I portray it half as well as you do in your art!

Absolutely WONDERFUL! You have a terrific illustrative style! I  the expression on the fox - with his tongue slurping to the side, and his eyes - portrays his intentions quite well! I've known many a flatterer like him in my day! :D
