I forgot I wanted to add this one up. This page has one thing of note....the last panel is gone. There was an original pencil drawing of Noir....that was either erased or covered up. (I can't remember) then there was the version I inked that I beleive made the book or was maybe a stat from another page....THEN there was even a final version Travis did about a year after the book came out that wasn't ever published at all.

I just think it boiled down to...he never felt like the last panel fit...the final version he did I thought looked pretty cool...I have a scan of it I got off e bay when the page was for sale a few years ago...it's not a very big scan but you can see the final image as it is now....

or for now.

maybe someday they'll be a fourth version.

;)

What pains me as a fan is how the majority is so quickly to perceive that Travis is a slow artist when the man is simply unbelievably dedicated to the quality of work he puts out. And also, praises to you for keeping up with him... you guys were like the Wright Brothers haha!

Great work on these Wild Cats pages Rich, thanks for sharing them with us!!
I've bee a long-time Travis-Fan, and your inks always seem to match so well with his pencils... It's really inspiring to see how proudly you speak of your work with him!

Probably my favorite page from the whole book! That first panel just knocks you on your ass! I was amazed to read an interview where Travis said he uses as little reference as possible. You guys as a team are just about as good as it gets, no disrespect to your other work.

It was probably the most natural job I did. There was pressure going in because of where he was at in his career. He'd just finished X-Men Wild Cats and those New Horizons painted covers. I was basically just getting my sea legs professionally and this was my first big break.

but honestly everything I had done before that, was really leading up to this point. I was already working in this style but it just wasn't coming through on anything else...I'd have to tweak my style to try and fit on different things and it just didn't work....

Did Travis always try throwing in a word balloon and do lettering himself when he got a chance to?

yeah for sure.

They would sometimes remove them for print...there are pages where he did the lettering in pencil and I inked them throughout the series on the originals.

I think he inked the Grifter word balloon and I did the stuff over by Spartan.
