August 30, 2013 Update: Added FAQs on where and when you can use my artworks. Thanks!

Hey folks!

As my Disney Villainettes collection continues to grow, I have been receiving a lot of common comments and questions which I've decided to address in this journal.

How did you come up with the idea?
It started with :iconstinasketchbook:'s Hades Art Jam, where we were asked to draw Hades in any way we wanted. Since I suck at drawing men, I did a gender-bender. I was so excited about the idea that I decided to make an entire series.

Why "Disney Villainettes"?
The series was originally called "Disney Bitches" but I did not like how un-family-friendly it sounded. Someone commented on my Gaston deviation, referring to her as "Gastonette". I liked how that sounded so I changed the series name to "Disney Villainettes". Why not "Villainess"? Because this is how the original female villains are already referred to.

How many more Villainettes are you going to do?
According to my list, I have enough male Disney villains to create 4 cycles of 6, which makes 24 Villainettes in total. However, since I am constantly altering the list, this number is not final and I may end up making more or less in reality.

Are you going to do animal villains too?
Yes, but since I am not very good at drawing animals, I will likely do human interpretations of them. I hope that is okay! I will try not to disappoint anybody.

What about Disney subsidiaries, such as Pixar or Disney Digital 3D?
My list currently includes Pixar villains. I don't have any Disney Digital 3D or live-action villains at the moment, but I am definitely open to doing them if the right villain catches my eye.

Which villain will not be appearing in the series?
There are four potential reasons why your favorite villain may not make it to the cut:
  1. I haven't seen the movie and am not planning to see it in the near future (ex. Home on the Range)
  2. I don't care enough for the villain to include him (ex. Sykes from Oliver and Company, Amos Slade from The Fox and the Hound)
  3. I don't believe I have the skills/vision to do the villain justice (ex. Horned King from The Black Cauldron)
  4. It is not clear whether the character is really a villain (ex. Bruce in Finding Nemo)
Again, my list is subject to change, so you might be seeing these villains after all.

Why is the style of the individual pieces in the series inconsistent with one another?
I am still growing as an artist, so every new deviation is a chance for me to experiment and try out new things. I don't want to hinder my development by limiting myself to a single style or type of background.

Why is Ratcliffe skinny?
Unfortunately, I am not accustomed to drawing larger women and am afraid they are too advanced for my present skill level. Thus, you should expect all larger villains in the future to be drawn in the same manner.

Can I use your artwork for my website, blog, Facebook cover, desktop background, etc.?
Sure! No need to ask, as long as it's for personal use (NOT commercial use) and you credit Mae Uy or blastedgoose, along with a link to the original piece if possible. Feel free to share the link with me after so I can see it too!

Can I print your artwork on physical products such as shirts, mousepads, etc.?

No. This violates Disney copyright and I would rather not go there. You can print it out on paper and frame it for personal use if you want, but please let me know first by commenting on the piece or dropping me a Note. Chances are I'll say yes but it's always nice to know!

Can I use your work as reference for Cosplay?
Definitely! I've already had some people do it and it's really cool for me to see them in action! I'd love it if you can show me a photo afterwards so I can appreciate the "collaboration"! :)

I wonder what a female Oogie Boogie would look like....

Also I could definitely see you creating a female Prince John from Robin Hood.

Both are on my list :)
Haven't seen a new one of these pics in a while, but it's nice to know you're still working on them.

So, you'll be doing Pixar villains? I can't wait for your Syndrome picture.

Cool. I'm gonna give you credit about the pixar villains since I already drew a female version of Hopper from A Bugs Life.

You've done a good job so far! I don't know why but I love seeing Disney villans being femminzied. Maybe its because I'm a girl and then I'll hate them a little less.

I'm excited to see how you're going to portray Scar from Lion King as well as Dr. Faciler from Princess and the Frog.

im looking forward to making them too!:)

Cool. Have you considered doing Xanatos from Gargoyles?
blastedgoose's avatar
I've never watched the show! I used to see the commercials on Disney Channel all the time though!

It was quite a cool show, I think you can get dvds of it now.

Anyway, in cause you were wondering this is what Xanatos looks like:

If you do Ratigan (Great Mouse Detective) you should try to make it look like a female version of Vincent Price (he does the voice). If you haven't heard of him, he's a famous horror movie actor...

Dude, that's a kick ass idea!
blastedgoose's avatar
omg that is SUCH a good idea! I should google all the voice actors for the villains and try to model the female versions based on them! thank you so much for the suggestion! i'll credit you for the idea once i get around to the animal villains :)

3. I don't believe I have the skills/vision to do the villain justice (ex. Horned King from The Black Cauldron)
