My local Drafthouse had a special screening of Spirited Away
yesterday night. I've just been beyond excited since the moment they announced it in the schedule and was constantly thinking of it for days... Shows how much that movie means to me, when Shin Gojira
's release was just a few days before it and yet I found myself more excited for the movie I've seen over fifteen times more than something brand new I'd waited ages for.
And I guess I couldn't maintain that excitement much longer cause I ended up sketching this out yesterday while waiting for the movie to start X'D LASKDMKLas
I don't know if I could ever really truly put into words just how much this movie means to me... And the best part is I know I'm not alone in that feeling. Spirited Away
definitely is not only Miyazaki's best work in my eyes, but one of the best works of art ever made. It's a true piece of magic on celluloid, and a true trip into another world that never gets old. The only true dreamscape I can think of that does what it should. I can watch it a million times and honestly will, and somehow it still always has the same grandeur and impact it had when I first saw it so long ago. This was my third time seeing it in a theater, but my first time seeing the Japanese version on the big screen, so it was even cooler of an experience. Spirited Away
is my second favorite movie ever after Jurassic Park
, and any of my best friends know just how crazy obsessed I am with all things JP so that's really saying something. I've planned for years to make a gigantic tribute piece to Spirited Away, because I love it that much. But have always wished to do that alongside other drawings of Miyazaki's other works. So that will come another day. Who knows when. For now though, I hope you like this quick little thing, even if it's small.
