Description
HARPG
A winter afternoon
The snow had been falling constantly the first days of her life but now it had finally stopped. Even though the sky was still clouded the air felt fresh and crisp.
Flake and her mother enjoyed the company of two other mares. But those would occasionally be handled by the two-legs during the daytime so Flake and her mother had much time to themselves.
Flake was curious and playful as any other foal, but also very brave. Almost borderline lunatic at times. There was an old stone wall crossing over their pasture. It seemed huge to Flake at first, but she had promptly jumped up on it. Well, after the first try had failed and she fell into the deep snow that had blown up against the stones, that is.
From up there she could see the whole wide world. And it was so big. Almost unimaginable big. The white cover spread wide and far, surrounded by dark trees packed tight together.
She could see other horses a bit further away but she couldn't get to them and her mother didn't even seem to notice that they were there.
Flake used to call to them, and sometimes a big brown one ,with snow that always covered his stomach and front legs, would answer her.
-------
Strawberry didn't seem to mind her young ones constant prancing around her. She was a gentle and understanding mother. Being born on hot sand and growing up with many friends her own age, she understood that her own foal would need a little patience from her side since there was no other young playmates in these woods. At least not for a while.
