Dream:
the man stood far off
whatever is shaking in the world doesn't bother him
standing in the woods, through the soles of his feet
he feels a distant river roaring through a cataract...
...
empty miles
El Producto companion
last chance gasoline vamp
Astrud sends red-letter smokey denials
stable as a bullet-ridden hotel room in Tangier
...
early afternoon appointment with death
pit-black shades hide his smiling eyes
he's the ebb tide, midnight undertow in a wine-dark sea
Tuco listens to the old cruisers lie, trying to buy
an hour of love with wooden nickels
while the piano man plays lullabies;
their mother is the street
...
glance at the moon
watching the flotsam and jetsam on 42nd
tomorrow boarded a train to Jersey and points west
so all I've got is now-
maybe...maybe I'll give Helen a call
we might drown each others sorrow
...
bronzed sunlight stabbing concrete
sleek jet plane idling in its berth
only raconteurs, card sharps, and gem cutters allowed
we'll share the decanted brandy
we'll deal ourselves in
riverboat aristocrats gambling to win
the affections of Lady R
she sets the time at Greenwich
for New York, Paris, London and Rome
she mastered Chanel legerdemain long ago
...
settle in boys
it's gonna be a long night
the man stood far off
whatever is shaking in the world doesn't bother him
standing in the woods, through the soles of his feet
he feels a distant river roaring through a cataract...

Literature
CHAMELEON SOUL
Rhythm and blues
A faded melody
A melodic soul
Nailed to the cross
Jesus Christ superstar
Heaven's junction
On the sly, on the slide
Playing to the house
On a low down guitar
Vagabond
And a straw hat
Hustling for a living
A dime a dozen
The Joker and
the Ace of spades
Moonshine
A treasure trove
Prohibition
Liquor
Burnt amber
Charred whiskey
Skeleton key
Ebony and ivory
Fossilised tears
Automaton
A music box
Cinders
Exploding bomb
fires in the night
The light of reason
God willing
Good grace
Fate and the ill fated
The house of cards
Trigger happy
Russian Roulette
And a show of hands
Pistol whipped
Duel
On the throw of a dice
And the pull of a trigger
Live and let die
No one here gets out alive
The future's unsaid
And the here and now has
already been told
Literature
Film Noir
Film noir is about what is hiding in the shadows,
what is hiding in plain sight,
by staying visible in a setting that masks presence.Within a narrative, either nonfiction or fiction,
I have satisfied myself that
we don't have to stay shackled.I keep telling everybody they should move on.
There’s a lot to be gained
if it weren't for the stress. We may live in a culture of distraction.
If something is really urgent,
someone will know how to contact you.

stockholm
i dreamt my lover was a drummer; he was standing in the apse
it rained acid all summer and i saw the roof collapse
couldn't see his reflection in the broken stained glass
but i swore i saw his ghost in the moment that he passed
and then he hung around
like ghosts most often do
he sang out of tune
he sanggive me the key to the city
so i know you'll never leave me
give me the key to the city
to stockholm
give me the key to your heart
so we'll never be apart
give me the key to the city

i know he's a god and all; on his words worlds turn
i know i think therefore i am, according to...

very nice read. I got confused about wooden nickels and card sharps. I couldn't think of anything like a wooden nickel--what did you mean by it? And I've only ever heard card shark, so card sharp was new to me. Is that really a thing people say?
