Self Portrait by BlackHawk45LC Self Portrait by BlackHawk45LC
Was listening to a Chris Oatley interview with Loish and they discussed the value of self portraits, and how you could learn a lot from them.  So I decided to give it a shot.

Things I learned:
I am not as lovely as Loish.
I am not as good a painter as Loish, or Mr. Oatley.
I am getting old.
I have "resting pissed off face" (I was making no expression for the reference photo)
I approach real subjects completely different than imaginary ones.
I used a muted color palette because I failed miserably with trying to find saturated colors that didn't seem too flashy.
Knowing exactly what you are painting is supposed to look like provides new challenges, and makes somethings much easier.

Hope you guys enjoy, and maybe learn something also.

I think it's excellent and I see no flaws, though, I do not know how you look personally. You say you are not, as lovely, as Loish (whoever Loish is.) :) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and no amount of what I or anyone else says, you will always look at yourself and say, I see flaws (if that is what you say.)

I hear you on using the muted palette...I on the other hand when I have a specific color in mind...I will waste an entire tubes of paint to achieve said color.

Oh, and you look like you stepped from the "Sons of Anarchy". All you need now is a bike and a dewrag. :) :D

This is a solid portrait captures the likeness and mood you feel about yourself. the look comes from intense attention and focus. almost atking the flaws of your artwork. dude your so solid on your fundamentals. I am surprised you left the eyes so unreflective,. and the lack of any embellishment really just really leave us with this expression of intense focus zero green on the head shows.. you shave that melon everyday till it's a baby bottom smooth. disciplined

Thats what I learn just looking at this solid, captured, focused, unreflective and disciplined Work of an artist of great caliber.

Hi, Joshua, which movie? you serious?  If you are then maybe I've seen it and that is why you look familiar. I've tried a couple times to figure out why you did look so familiar... Who knows...lol...My husband tells me that everyone looks familiar to me. He can't stand it when I stop a complete stranger an ask if we have met before. :D

1 thing i learned, you're still a great artist, and will only keep getting better.... well, that's two but it comes from the heart dang it!

That and since i hadn't read the description yet when i clicked on the image i was expecting alot of people saying anything about "plague of gripes" another artist/youtuber since i didn't know it was you (im new here). Then again, i didn't read the comments yet since i read the desc and imidietly pressed comment... <_<

TLDR: i respect the artist but i'm an idiot.

Thanks for the kind words... i am unfamiliar with the character you mentioned but after a quick search i can understand why you would think it was an image of him. I take no offense... thanks again.

That's an interesting feeling, really hard to reach I think. But usually I do better stuff when I'm in this mood. I don't know if it is the case for you as well. :)
