Welcome one and all to Blackbird Equestrian Center's 2018 Charity Ball & Horse Show!
Blackbird EC has received a grant through an anonymous donor to hold an equestrian event benefitting a number of charities. Not only is the donor sponsoring the costs of the show, they will award $100 per entrant to the charity of choice of that entrant. (Fictional; for story purposes.)
They are also hosting a grand ball at the end of the event to celebrate!
Run Date: July 01 - November 30, 2018 @ 11:59pm Central Time
Setting: Blackbird Equestrian Center, Canada. November 28-30.
Guest horses will be stabled at the far end of the barn. Guest tents will be set up in the pasture behind the barn, out of the view of competing horses. Trailer parking is available in the grassy area of the driveway and behind the house if necessary.
R U L E S
Pre-registration is required for this event but there is no deadline for registration.
Due to judging constraints, we are unable to permit collaborations with other artists for main entries. You are welcome to collaborate on extras or the Grand Ball image.
Each entrant should pick a charity (can be for humans, animals, what have you) upon registration. Their entry should include the name, logo, or some identifying marker of this charity somewhere in the entry. Fictional charities are permitted if proof of previous establishment can be provided.

Charity Ball and Horse Show Starting List
C L A S S E S
Dressage
> Formal freestyle event. Any moves, to music of your choice.
> Setting: Outdoor Dirt Ring; Day 1, Early Morning, 15ºC. The sun rises early, lots of shadows over the arena.
> Rider Dress: FEI based. Top hat or helmet; solid color jacket; white/off-white breeches & gloves; black tall boots; OR military/police dress.
> Horse: FEI based. Dressage saddle; bridle with noseband (double bridle optional); braided/plaited mane. No martingales/breastplates/boots.
Cross Country
> Create your own obstacle. Some of them have charity logos.
> Setting: Cross Country Course; Day 2, Morning, 24ºC. It is humid, cloudy, and looks as if it may rain.
> Rider Dress: FEI based. Helmet; solid color shirt; body protector; white/light tan breeches; riding boots; OR military/police dress.
> Horse: FEI based. No bit restrictions; bitless allowed; leg protection required; only running martingales permitted.
Stadium Jumping
> Create your own jump. Some of them have charity logos.
> Setting: Indoor Arena; Day 3, Late Morning, 10ºC. It is storming outside, darkening the arena.
> Rider Dress: FEI based. Helmet; solid color jacket; white shirt; riding boots; white/light tan breeches; OR military/police dress.
> Horse: FEI based. No bit restrictions; bitless allowed; leg protection strongly encouraged; only running martingales permitted.
Hunter-Equitation
> Can be under saddle or over fences. Create your own fence. Some of them have charity logos.
> Setting: Outdoor Dirt Ring; Day 1, Afternoon, 20ºC. It is bright and sunny.
> Rider Dress: USEF based. Helmet; white shirt; black/blue/green/grey/brown/scarlet jacket; white/tan breeches; OR military/police dress.
> Horse: USEF based. Snaffle or pelham bit with cavesson noseband; standing or running martingale over fences only; no boots or wraps.
In-Hand
> Show your horse standing, walking, or trotting. Handler must be shown.
> Setting: Indoor Arena; Day 2, Late Afternoon, 20ºC. It is very humid, with light drizzles outside.
> Rider Dress: Must be neat and not overly flashy. Tall English or Western boots required. Breeches, dress pants or skirt (no jeans).
> Horse: Neatly groomed, braids/plaits optional. No equipment except for English or Western bridle or formal halter. Snaffle or bitless only.
Historical Equitation
> Like a typical hunter class, but with a twist - choose a historical period and show us how they rode their horses!
> Setting: Outdoor Dirt Arena; Day 3, Early Afternoon, 15ºC. The storms are starting to lighten, but the ground is muddy.
> Rider Dress: Must be accurate for the time period chosen. Please show references. (Such as Victorian sidesaddle or Roman gladiator.)
> Horse: Must be accurate for the time period chosen. No potentially harmful equipment, even if accurate. Please show references.
T H E G R A N D B A L L
Ah, the best part of the whole event - the grand ball! A chance for your entrants to dress up and enjoy themselves. Entrance is $20 per person (fictional; for story purposes) and will be matched by our anonymous donor and donated to the charity of your rider's choice.
> The indoor arena has been decorated for this event! A temporary wooden floor has been laid down. Tables are set up on either side, with a large dance floor in the center. A DJ has been set up along the wall, in the middle of vast catering tables filled with all kinds of food and sweets. And - what's this - an open bar?
> Attire is formal - suit and tie or formal gown (knees or lower). No jeans, sneakers, riding attire, or casual dress.
> All ages are permitted, but as there is an open bar, drunk and disorderly behavior is prohibited.
> The DJ takes requests!
