A loud Stillness had settled over the landscape, where moments before had been chaos. Even the animals were silent, only the howl of the icy wind could be heard.
Just seconds before, Radditz had smashed his elbow into his brothers, Kakarott's face, after Kakarot or Son Goku as the people of Earth called him, had released his tail in a shining moment of stupidity. The only chance for Goku and his new-found ally Piccolo to defeat their much more powerful enemy, the Saiyan Radditz, was gone in the blink of an eye. Piccolo couldn't believe that his former arch-enemy would be so easily tricked into such a predicament by a devious Saiyan's lies. The well placed blow had sent Goku flying and he now lay clutching his injured face. Radditz caught his breath and smirked. "It would be a challenge to find a bigger idiot than you, Kakarot. But enough with this nonsense! Dont worry, I will take good care of your brat, I promise. I will make a proud, strong Saiyan warrior out of him!" "N-no! I won't let you!" came the predictable response from the injured man. His mind could only begin to comprehend the horrors that awaited his four year old son, who was currently stashed away in Radditz's ship, if Radditz were to make good on his threat. "Heh, It really doesn't matter to me what you want. It's not like you can really do anything about it." An unholy smirk spread over the Saiyan's features and he stretched out his right hand. Energy gathered into a ball and was just seconds away from being released when he changed his mind. "No, that would be a pointless waste of energy. I'll finish you off the old-fashioned way!"
Radditz proceeded to enthusiastically beat his brother over and over, never showing an ounce of pity or remorse. The assault tapered off and Goku, his own flesh and blood, lay broken and battered. Raditz was sure that he'd broken almost every bone in Goku's body. He was still alive though, thanks to the amazing durability of their race. He wouldn't last much longer though, of that Raditz was certain. Should he just deliver the killing blow?
Before he could decide, his scouter beeped, warning him just in time of the Namek's sneak attack. Radditz easily took the brunt on the kick and turned to smash his fist into Piccolo's ribcage. The Namek choked and wheezed as he hit the ground, coughing up a good amount of purple blood. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot about you. That's fine though, I'd be more than happy to give you the first ticket to the Afterlife!" Piccolo painfully got to his feet, watching numbly as Radditz stretched out his hand, the beam of energy shooting out and piercing through Piccolo's chest. He flew threw the air, landing a few yards away half dazed, but still aware of the ominous situation. Ribbons of blood flowed from the fist sized hole. Radditz couldn't believe his eyes. How was it that he was still alive? It wouldn't be long though, he would bleed out in a short amount of time. Radditz cold-bloodedly decided to let nature run its course.
Back to Kakarott, the disgrace of his people and his family. Kakarrot lay there, bloodied, battered and unconsious, as if he were waiting for Radditz to put him out of his misery. Something was holding him back, preventing him from making that killing blow that would end it all. An image of his father's face came to him, so identical to Kakarot's. Was that was was holding him back? Admiration his father, the great Saiyan warrior? Or was it brotherly love, if that was what it was called. Radditz wrinkled his nose at the thought and dropped the arm he'd raised with deadly intent back to his side.
He turned and made his way in the direction of his ship, which lay imbedded in the crater it made when it landed. He could see, a small shadow moving around inside. It was the brat, his nephew. Why hadn't he thought ahead, he thought distainfully. now he would have to spend the the entire trip back, a good two weeks, with this sniveling brat. Should he put in a call to Nappa and beg him to send a self piloted ship? That probably would earn him any points in his favor. Maybe he could change the settings on the Statis Unit so that the brat would be asleep. That was probably his most realistic option at this point.
Radditz opened the door to the ship and quickly snatched the runny nosed, teary eyed child by the shirt. "Waaaah! Let me go! Leave me alone!" the little boy screamed, with earsplitting volume. "Quiet! That will NOT be tolerated! Man! Is this what a Saiyan is supposed to be like? What was my idiot brother thinking?" With his left hand, he held the boy away from him. The boy kicked him a few times during his fit, in the arm and Raditz was midly surprised that it hurt as bad as it did. With his other hand Raditz, was keying in information on a brightly colored keyboard. He glanced once at Gohan to estimate his weight and keyed the last few commands in. He smiled as a beep confirmed the information that he had entered. Another beep startled him and he glanced at his scouter, which was showing Gohan's power level at 700. "Don't you start again. I've had just about enough of this." Radditz growled. He opened up a communication channel and covered Gohan's mouth tightly with his other hand.
"Radditz to Nappa. Please answer!"
"Nappa here. What are you doing? Do you have Kakarot with you?" Demanded the other Saiyan.
"No. He refused and I had to eliminate him. I have his son though. He decided it would be best not to tell them of his moment of mercy, if you could call it that.
Another voice cut in, Prince Vegeta's this time, "His..son? Why and more importantly who could be the brat's mother?"
"I'm sure its an Earthling. Kakarot had apparently settled down and made his life as one of them. He refused to come with me. He had amnesia or something."
"Ugh. Do what you want, but you will take full responsibility for the brat. We will rendevous on Planet Frieza 299 in 15 days. Vegeta out!"
With that the communication ended abrubtly. Radditz glanced down to Gohan, who watched him from teary eyes, still sniffling. "What is your name?" he growled. The little boy sniffled, his voice breaking as he answered, "S-Son Gohan." "Ugh. Talking about strange names. I'm Radditz and from now on I am your father. You are coming with me." "What? No! How--Where is my dad? DAAAD!" He began to scream and kick once again. "I don't believe it! I said QUIET! Do it again and your going to get it! Forget about Kakarot, he's dead. DEAD, understand? I am now responsible for you! And now we are leaving this miserable little planet and I am going to make a proud Saiyan out of you." Terrified, Gohan did his best to supress his sob. He stared at Raditz and his expression turned to one of child-like curiosity. "Who is Kakarot and what is a Saiyan? Something to eat?" Surprised, Radditz shook his head, he almost bursted out a short laugh. He still didn't answer as he pressed a button and the instruments of the ship came to life. He settled back into his seat and sat the child on his lap as the start up sequence began. "We are leaving now. In two weeks, we will land and I will introduce you to two fellow Saiyans. Now be quiet."
Before Gohan could begin to protest, the ship lurched and shot into the sky and a few seconds later, the ship was swallowed up by the blue sky. Gohan wondered why he was so tired all of the sudden and before he knew it, he was asleep against his Uncle's chest.
Radditz took a deep breath and enjoyed the silence. He suppressed a shudder at the thought of the future. He had to look after a child now. A child. It definately wasn't going to be easy, but for now he could rest.
