Dragon Jar by BJPentecost Dragon Jar by BJPentecost
More futzing around with Zbrush.

So far, Zbrush is GGGOOOODDDLLLYYY frickin awesome. I only have a few niggling complaints, my biggest one being that in the middle of using the spotlight feature (which is fecking magnificient), sometimes zbrush will randomly go FUCK YOU BITCH and crash. XC

All those different material settings were created using matcaps, multiple render passes, and layer effects in photoshop.

I would actually consider printing something like this up through shapeways. :D Could get pricey though. XC 3D printing ain't exactly cheap.

you know, there are machines that can fabricate physical objects from 3D models.
the fabrications are often used as prototypes for reproductions made from casts.
I bet this would sell really well if someone invested in its production.

Indeed! :D Although I wouldn't have any idea how to market such a thing. I am considering looking into it. :)

Of course it would not be cost effective at all to get a 3D printer and make your own prints to sell.
However there are companies that own 3D printers that will make a single print for $xx.xx
That print would be your prototype for investment as well as production.

you could have a rep approach buyers at places like Hot Topic, Spencer Gifts, Bud K, Pyramid Collection, etc.
I suppose the hard part is getting the initial capitol for the first fabrication and sample run.
You could prob post a craiglist ad for a Rep.

If you look into it and find out what the initial cost would be,
you might be able to get the funds on kickstarter.com or something similar.

Do you have a real jar that you patterned it after or is it completely CGI?
[I've noticed that most artists use real-world objects as models for their art.] Knowing your talent, the jar that you used as a model could have been a smooth one. I found it interesting that you gave your draco a navel.

No, I don't own anything like this. As for the navel, I just like the way it looks there. =P

This is fantastic. Love the detail you've put in here. Zbrush is pretty cool but I have to say I'm preferring sculptris so far (its basically a free version of zbrush but with a far simpler UI). I love the one on the end of the first line of colours. :) Fantastic.

Do you own one of those 3d printers? You should get one if not! If it is within the power of my economy I would definitely buy a 3d print of this.

:) Those printers are insanely expensive to use and even more so to own. The technology is fairly new so hopefully, the price will go down sometime.

I want one. I have done some sculpting with Super sculpey, but digital sculpting is so much easier. The day they are affordable and compatible with Blender (or any format Blender can fully export to) I am getting one.

As they say "practice makes perfect".
But I'm having a hard time. I couldn't install the Subtool master plugin and I failed at loading alphas.

But i'm not giving up :)
Maybe my install is not right.

Thank you for your encouraging words, very much :)

I've been dabbling lightly in 3D for a few years. I never got into it deeply, but I am trying to now. It's very difficult because my computer isn't exactly the fastest thing on 4 wheels.
