The hypnic jerk jolts Lucy awake. Her squinted, groggy eyes are forced to quickly adjust to the surroundings of her bedroom, as her mind now registers the accelerated heartbeat. 'Damn it' she thought. So much for a relaxing wakeup. She lets out a heavy sigh, putting her hand to her forehead to calm herself for several seconds. She'd have to get ready for the inevitable: packing for school, and walking downstairs, to see her family. 'No, no I can't do this now. I have to get out of here. Maybe mom will calm down after school'. Her thoughts raced.
'No, what if she doesn't? What if she gets more angry?'.

The familiar, blaring ringing of the school bell brought about mixed feelings for the students of Roseville High. Often times, it was a signal that the students were late and had to suffer the teacher's scoldings or tallied up tardies, or having to transition from a not so bad period to an actual boring one. Or worse, an already very boring one to nothing but Snoozeville. This sentiment was shared by much of the school, but this time it was a great big relief since it was almost 3 P.M, when school was letting out.
