This totally wacky aircraft was loosely based on the real-life Vought F7U Cutlass.

A (XF5U)Skimmer/(F7U)Cutlass mash-up. Very inventive! I certainly did a doubletake.

Actually...I think she'd look a lot better without the honking big triangles on top.

The Cutlas didn't have them.

Also, maybe shorten the aft prop shafts?

But, yeah, way to use the development work of the "Flying Pancake" and get the most out of a turbo-prop arraignment.

Grab ALL the horse power!

Are those twin tailplanes?

V-shaped, yeah... I know, crazy!!!

Getting them to move in sync must have been challenging in the 50s. I think you made a design that would have been too futuristic, even for Vought in the early 50s.

I agree! This was meant as maybe more sort of early 1960s-ish, but still... This is clearly one of my less plausible designs, but it was fun doing, so I decided to include in the gallery regardless... ;)

But then, in the early 60s, they would be looking for a successor to the F8U, and this, most definitely, isn't it.

Really Unique idea, for expansion.

Thank you! These belong to the "wilder" part of my aviation re-creations! I evebn hesitated to post them here back in 2010!
