It's October again, so that means it's time for my yearly Halloween series. This year I'll be drawing some of the scariest and more interesting demons, monsters, and villains from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. I thought it an appropriate time to pay homage to one of my favorite TV shows, and I hope that you all enjoy it.
I also feel like I need to give you an explanation of where I've been for a while, especially after I'd promised so much (Still Here). I had been working on a lot of projects at once, and even doing really pretty well with them. I was almost ready to start posting them, but then I got a new job. It was a small
Well, it seems we've reached the end of another journey, and as usual, I've put off posting the final picture as long as possible. This last piece has brought Project Nerrivik to an official end. But that doesn't mean that I won't ever be coming back to it, and in fact I may revisit my other planets too, especially if you guys really want me to do more for any of them.
As far as my next project goes, I'm a long way off (so far that I don't want to even guess at a start date), so I'll be working on and occasionally posting random stuff until then. However, I have a few ideas for mini-projects that I could do this year during the long interim.
Up and down the street, as far as you can see, the houses are covered in Halloween decorations; varied combinations and incarnations of Jack-o-Lanterns, scarecrows, bats, graveyards, skeletons, strings of lights, torches, cobwebs, blood splatters, the list goes on and on. You can see other groups of kids heading out into the night, all in costume, some even coordinated to go together. Another thing they all have (just like you), is a massive grin and an excited glint in their eyes. It's Halloween Night!
Your group goes up to the first house on your street, not so decorated as some of the others (just a scarecrow on the porch and some
As the sun approaches the horizon, the doorbell rings. Your friends have come over, all according to plan; the four of you had agreed to all go Trick or Treating together. Each of them has their own costume, some homemade, others store-bought. Your Halloween entourage will now consist of a bat, a witch, Avatar Aang, a gargoyle, Frankenstein’s monster, and a Dalek (none of their costumes are as good as yours, of course). You all talk for a while, reminiscing about that week at school, the cut-and-paste art projects, the short stories you wrote, and the class party yesterday. You hadn’t had a costume parade this year, probably b
Lunch is bigger than usual; your mum knows how things are on Halloween, making dinner more of a quick snack of holiday treats. Taking your seat at the table, you look at the thematic meal that has been prepared. The main dish is bucatini and rigatoni, dyed pink while it was boiling, and served with marinara sauce that has ground beef in it; all together, it bears a sickening resemblance to a large bowl of viscera... delicious! To drink, you have a large glass of cranberry juice; in previous years, it had been tomato juice, but that hadn't looked quite as much like actual blood. As a side dish, a bowl full of peeled grapes (you had helped
Later on, your parents bring out the pumpkins that you had all picked from a friendly neighbor's garden a few days ago. You take yours, a deep orange near-spherical one that isn't too small, but also not too big and heavy to lift. It has a few warty bumps on its surface and a short but twisted stem still attached at the top, the little imperfections giving it some character. You always wait until Halloween day to carve your pumpkin so that it's still fresh that night and won't start to deteriorate until the holiday is over.
When you chose your pumpkin, you noticed how wide the base of the stem was, and how one of the warts was position
The day goes on, and you are no longer able to resist donning your costume. Taking it down off of its hanger in your closet, you get the feel of the black leathery fabric making up most of the outfit. You pull the zipper down the back to fit your legs through the pants and put on the shoes that have been altered to look like feet with large claws. Those took a lot of time to make, finding a pair of fairly soft shoes that you cut and stitched back up to give toes, spray painting them black, and using hot glue to attach the curved plastic claws. Next you pull your arms through the bodysuit's sleeves and wiggle your shoulders into position.
After breakfast you go out to get the mail, and turning back toward the house, you get a good preview of what tonight's Trick-or-Treaters will see as they approach. The lawn itself is barely visible, having been covered with most of the leaves that you had raked up earlier in the season, making it look fairly unkempt and distinct against the neighbors' tidy front yards. Scattered throughout it are patches of loose dirt, each topped with a different tombstone; some are flat and square, some tall and with a cross, simple blank ones, ornately carved ones, and so on. Fake cobwebs are stretched between the bushes on the edge of the grass, and
Your eyes blink open as the first rays of dawn streak through your window, the muted gray light of autumn rather than the harsh white-yellow of summer. You sit up and stretch, yawning and rubbing the sleep from your eyes... when suddenly you remember! It's Halloween! Pumpkin carving! Your costume! Trick-or-Treating! Candy! You throw off the duvet and spring out of bed, running before you touch the floor with a huge grin lighting up your face.
Reaching the back door, you throw it open and step out into the early morning. A brisk, refreshing breeze is blowing, carrying with it all the scents you have come to love: frost becoming dew on
It's September now, and you all know what that means. It's time to start thinking about Halloween!
I've been having trouble deciding on a subject for my Halloween posts this year, so I thought I'd ask all of you, see what you like
Tell me in the comments which of the following options (as well as any suggestions within those subjects) you want to see me draw this year:
- Scary/Creepy Organisms [Barreleye Fish, Bleeding Tooth Fungus, Green Banded Broodsack, etc.]
- Cryptids [Sasquatch, Chupacabra, Rods, etc.]
- Mythical Creatures [Ahuizotl, Dragon, Unicorn, etc.]
- Masks (Historical and Fictional) [Jason's, African Triba

1. What does your DeviantArt name mean and why?
Biofauna25 is a fusion of the Greek root words for life and animals, respectively, and
twenty-five has been my favorite number for as long as I can remember. Altogether, I
intended for my user name to show my passion for living things and and learning more
2. What fandom were you obsessed with when you joined and what are you into now?
When I first made my profile, I was obsessed with James Cameron's Avatar, Ben 10, and
Pokémon. Since then, I've become more interested in Minecraft and My Little Pony, but
This is completely out of nowhere, and totally unrelated to anything I usually post, but I just had to share it.
I got Pokémon Alpha Sapphire over the holidays, and I've been playing it on and off for last week or so. I've been putting together my classic team (plus Latias, I love that she's an event Pokémon in it :) ), level grinding, collecting badges, etc. I never thought I'd love another Pokémon game like I loved the original Sapphire, but Alpha has truly taken its place as an improved, remastered version.
However, what just happened to me must be addressed.
One of the things I remember about the original Sapphire was ho
