I have been thinking about whales a LOT lately.
I was one of those kids who had one of those plastic milk crates full of animal figures, and my largest collection was my whales. I think I had almost every kind of whale and dolphin, and those action figures were COOL and to scale?!! Whyyyyyyyyyy did I get rid of those?! Oh, because adulting, ugh.
ANYWAY. Sperm whales are one of my favorites, and they may actually be number 1 for me. (I really like Right Whales as well.)
When I decided I was finally going to tackle designing a whale character, my THOUGHT was, "gentle, kind, intelligent creature..." ...and no matter what I do, I end up with an animal design who looks like it's about to throw down in some epic Don Bluth fight scene where the mother...you know. ๐
A number of things happened today. I found my folder full of Don Bluth's concept art for his scrapped film "Little Blue Whale," AND I finally managed to track down a film that was my NIGHTMARE FUEL from being a child. And yeah, it's about whales.
Stay tuned for fanart, because yeah.
Whales.
Hopefully the name of this whale doesn't get this art flagged. It's what they're called, and it's rather unfortunate. Fun fact, the reason is, when they discovered "the stuff" inside of this whale's head, they thought it to be...the other stuff. So they named it that.
Neat. And stupid.
I definitely think James Cameron was onto something with all this whale stuff.
Anyway. I love these guys.
