Darkdoomer's unfortunate imp pays for its sins repeatedly.

If you are an aficionado of the ancient computer game "doom" you might try and run bimshwel.com/awnaw/oomd/chuu.z… and see what it gets you.

I had to draw these as transparent pngs to get them into the game, so I am uncertain how much stupider that will look on a website than usual.  Whoopth.

One of a few animations I made for an add-on called "archie" by one "Pez" that was released recently. At the moment they are not used in a way that I think is very apparent, so I figured it was worth showing an animation here.  And perhaps not but one must take risks in life.

This really needs an extra frame inserted after the second.  i cannot stand how abruptly that plate drops.

It still looks delicious tough.

although i felt a little bad about shooting such an adorable enemy i'm glad you made their deaths bloodless.
it's a little difficult to tell at first that their fireball attack is coming from the cake because of the limited attack frames allowed - at first i'd thought their heads suddenly distorted hugely, but after luring them into fighting other enemies i saw that it was actually a demonic cake.

in any case it is a very appealing modification that works very well in-game by lending levity, and because the style you employed doesn't seem out of place next to these modern higher resolution graphics. i liked seeing patachu from different angels - i used no clipping to go see a few of them in their unalerted state, and it was nice to see a doom enemy standing still for a change (even though it was often useful to see the slight movement of an unalerted enemy before you round a corner right into them it still bugged me that they were always walking in place).

Oh how about that.  I did not think anybody would actually download that, or know what to do with it in that event.  Thank you for trying it!
I started on a cake-throwing animation but that was after I found out the thing might not be used and was not motivated to finish.  Alternate uses for the demon might also have been a good idea.  It was a half-baked baked good-based idea.  The project owner suggested a cake based on [something or other] but in fact Mr. Doomer himself suggested an axe, which at least would be more obvious as a destructive tool, but I was already set in my ways.

The alternate death is bloody.  In fact I did that first but it is too distinct to see very often, and looks bad in most of doom's narrow areas anyway (where it was not originally meant to appear).
It was my old doom project that got my melting fixation started, since dopes also originated there and they seemed like things that would lack internal organs.  It seemed sensible to extend the fate to other dumb beasts.

I assume the "walking in place" effect was because nobody really stands totally still but the artists did not feel like making proper idle frames, considering that most of the time visible enemies would be actively stalking the player.  I started with the standing pose, though, so I might as well use it.  The dessert is more ornamental than most weaponry so a stable display is important.

that is an interesting bit of dope trivia! it is certainly not apparent from your characters how much of a role id software unwittingly played in their conceptions (am i recalling correctly that nemitz was influenced by the flying red enemies from heretic?). i have long been curious about your previous doom-editing exploits...was the dope-containing wad ever made available?

when i was really into editing doom the only graphic changes i made were to make some of the deaths gorier, as i was very into gore in games and movies at the time. now i'm quite far from that mindset, and don't care to see extravagant bloodshed, much less so when it's in combination with cute characters. i think the melting-death is a very nice compromise.

as for the walking in place, yes i think the same thing about the assumptions made by the developers. it would seem though that with the all the major work of developing the engine and such having been completed already it wouldn't have been unreasonable to address the issue considering that the game starts off with two enemies walking in place in plain sight of the player.

as for the patachu, it's so enjoyable to watch it walk around that i wish the context didn't limit the interactive options to briefly battling it.

Now it is because I must avoid eggs to enhance my brainpower.

Did you come up with that reasoning before or after you started enhancing your brainpower?

After, I learned about it a few weeks ago.

What is the danger of eggs, apart from the cholesterol and suspicious factory farming practices?

I don't know, my mom told me that those that have brain damage are not allowed to have eggs, oranges, or artificial ingredients.  That knocks out a few fun foods but, there are alternatives.
