Last minute

What remains of a squad within B Company (843rd Attack Battalion) is seen bunkering down a small dugout, desperately awaiting extraction as platoons of droids surround their position and threaten to completely overrun them. With the clock ticking on the lives of remaining B Company personnel still on the deck, two gunships dispatched from a nearby assault ship are ordered to swoop in while their airframes were being buffeted by a hail of flak and hastily evacuate the last surviving troops, sustaining moderate damage in the process. During the battle of New Diosna, the coordination and movements of each Republic detachment required meticulous planning and consideration in regards to both the conservation of the very limited resources supplied to the 843rd and the sheer magnitude of the force they were up against. Unfortunately, a serious tactical error on the part of the Battalion's command element was made when insufficient intelligence led to the number of Separatist combatants within a designated area on the city's outskirts being greatly underestimated, with the assault element being told to only expect light resistance when moving through the combat zone. This faulty judgement led to the loss of more than half of the personnel within the company, a failure which weighed heavily on the Battalion's upper echelons. Whilst these kind of attrition rates were nothing new to the GAR at large, on an individual level, the surviving soldiers of the 843rd would forever remember this particular engagement as a profoundly grim and bloody demonstration of just how savage war can be.

This is probably going to be my closing post for 2023. Just wanna give a huge thanks to everyone for all the support over the past year, I've been to a lot of pretty dark mental places I never would've thought I'd be, and gone down some remarkably selfish and hateful paths I'll never again be so pessimistic as to revisit. Your continued support for my passion has undoubtedly kept me from fully losing it and completely resigning myself to a life of loneliness and self-pity, and for that I will always remain grateful.
