Man Cave LED Edge-Lit Sign

Description

For those that don't know, the term "man cave" is a modern-day equivalent of "bachelor pad" (though not by definition restricted to single guys).

The design came from a neon sign I saw somewhere online, but as neat as it was, it wasn't $400 neat. Professionally cut LED signs were a more affordable option, but still a bit out of my price range; plus, what’s the fun in just buying one?

I found a site that sells DIY kits piecemeal, so I snagged the sign base, and grabbed a strip of LEDs and a 12V adapter. The acrylic sheets I actually had left over from when I made my combat shotgun case. In the end, the whole project cost ~$20.

I hand-carved the design into the plastic using a Dremel drill, and let me tell you, after an hour using that thing my hand was SORE. I actually have the image and text on two separate pieces of plastic, as I was hoping to have each in its own color, but the LED strips were too wide to fit them side-by-side.

The entire sign measures 12.5" (31cm) wide x 10.5" (26cm) high x 3.5" (8.5cm) deep.

Hey man, I came here and saw some of your Pepakura models (Which I love, by the way.) and thought I'd make a suggestion:

Moveable Pepakura. I too do Pepakura, and one day, I got really bored, so I started thinking. (At the time, I was obsessed with getting the twisty ties from the store and making men out of them.) I came up with the thought of adding my two favorite hobbies! I hot glued the tips of twisty ties to the inside of the Pepakura to make a bendable skeleton-thing.
Just a suggestion.
