Just watched it and gotta say it takes a lot for me to sit up and take notice with comic-to-films but being the inner geek that I am my jaw just about dropped at the very beginning when the film played the first few notes to Legend of Zelda; A Link to the Past. The rest was history.

Did you read the comic? Because I didn't and I don't know if I will enjoy the movie...

I hadn't read the comic and I hadn't been to a movie since Avatar and I enjoyed it soooo hard. XD The plot is pretty straight forward- if it was any more complicated I think it would have been overwhelming but it had a great overall balance of OMGGGGGGVISUAAAAALS and just enough plot to keep it all together.

The comic's plot is actually a (little) bit complicated. I haven't seen the movie yet but I heard that the movie was significantly dumbed-down, and that very important things to the original plot were left out or changed in kind of weird ways. I do plan to see it eventually though.

Never. Ever. Ever. Compare a movie to it's original inspiration. 1. It always leads to heartache 2. the movies themselves are expensive, elaborate fanart.

It's best to just take in the pretty colors and flashing lights and orgasmic soundtrack and enjoy it. If it wasn't for the movie giving me even a little taste of the Scott Pilgrim world, I would have passed the comic by. Now I'm saving my pennies to go read it. Ultimately, I call that success. 8)

That's probably a good attitude to have! Although sometimes movies can be pretty close to the source material, and sometimes even BETTER (like with Fight Club).

I'm personally just amazed that Scott Pilgrim made it to the movies at all to begin with. An obscure indie comic with a complicated (and at times incoherent) plot which is based on the premise of real life in a video game world, whose final volume hadn't even come out yet when the movie was in production, just makes it such a baffling combination of things that I'm amazed it was even optioned, much less funded (to the tune of $60 million!), and starring Michael Cera (who is a bit of a hollywood darling lately, although I don't know how much he makes per movie - IMDbPro is being stingy with those details).

Although considering it's only made $24 million at the box office so far, I suspect this is not an experiment that's going to be repeated any time soon.

I think they knew how it was going to fly- their target audience just are all slackers. XD They'll make their money back in DVD sales and cult status immortality. I know it's on my shortlist of favorite movies now, and it helped me get over how the art style of the comic annoyed me just falling in love with it's absurd world.

Can't wait to see this, when it's out in the UK, I've heard many good things about it... well actually only "ZOMGYOUHAVETOWATCHIT!IT'SAMAZING!!!" But I'm still convinced! 8D

Yet my friend has heard to total opposite that it's a rubbish movie, I can only conclude the type of people we often communicate to, depends on their views is; me =DA, gamers and nerds, her=MJ fans, ???, 'normal' people.

Well I'm NOT QUITE a nerd, perhaps a NERD IN WAITING or something, I like nerdy things but not to the extent I could recite quotes or own action figures and such X3 I have a feeling I will enjoy it, my friend however will not.

Eh if you understand basic video game logics YOU'RE GOOD TO GO. I'm not a gamer, but like 75% of my friends are so I was entranced the whole time. XD Comic Book fans should equally be amused.

If not, then your friend can just stay at home and watch "Mean Girls".

Haha sounds like I'll like it then ^^ I love the fan arts of some games even if I don't play them.

I don't think she'll go anyway and would be quite a home watching "Mean Girls" lol

Thanks ^^

I only got through the first book but when I worked at a comic book shop, the owner was mad about it. D: I didn't really see the appeal. You start reading it and it's fairly normal and boring, a few jibes here about comics and video games and then BAM...bizarre land and no one's still quite sure what to make of the 6th book. =3

LMAO! When I read the comic I came to the conclusion that it is pretty much one great big hipsterfest. And also isn't Scott pretty much what all male nerds want to be? He's pretty much a useless loser but WITH MAGIC GAMING SUPERPOWERS AND A HOT BLUE HAIRED GIRLFRIEND. Still, Edgar Wright is directing it so I MUST SEEEE!
