'Hawk' poster by BikerScout 'Hawk' poster by BikerScout
In Feb 2011, I was asked to produce a full size, illustrated poster for a UK-made short film called 'Hawk'. Less than a month later, this was the result.

This is the final version of the poster which was on display at the film's World Premiere at BAFTA in London on 1 March 2011.

Well done Dave mate! Looks fantastic, lovely composition.
Did you have to create the typeface as well?
How many hours roughly went into it all?
BikerScout Featured By Owner Apr 3, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
Thanks Connie. It was the biggest challenge of my life but fantastically rewarding!

The title logo & credit block were the only things I didn't have to paint myself. The logo was a 3D render which the studio supplied & they lit it based on the final composition.

From start to finish was 1 month. It was a struggle to get home from work and then work on this for a few hours so I ended up booking a week off work - it gave me a taste of what it would be like to work freelance. (Daytime TV us the devil.)

So it's difficult to quantify really. I had to pull a couple of really long days towards the end - 8:30am to about 11pm. Maybe 120-140 hours in total? Certainly the longest I've ever spent on one piece, and the quickest I've produced something of this scale too! :faint:

I'm still exhausted...

Holy heck! One month and working as well!!
Well done buddy  that must have been so tough.
Oh yeah I know those long days when I was studying last year...but I can't imagine working on the side as well.

Hope you catch up on sleep soon :giggle:

Channeling your inner Struzan, looks awesome man, love the style you achieved. Keep rockin' it.

Also, what did you think of Source Code?

Source Code: have now seen it & loved it! :w00t:

I think I could've done better with more time but for a month's work, while still doing the my day job, it's not bad. Learned a heck of a lot of stuff though. Colour grading is a bitch. :shakefist:

Haven't been to the cinema for a while but the wife is off to New Orleans for a conference this week so I'm going to catch up on a lot of stuff, including Source Code. Funnily enough, when I went to the Hawk premiere on 1 March at BAFTA, the film screening after ours was... Source Code. Kept looking out for Duncan Jones & Gyllenhaal, but no such luck.

And thanks again for sharing your brush pack, buddy - honestly, it saved my life. :worship:

Thanks! :thanks: It ended up a little darker than I would've liked but that's how it is when you're working to someone else's vision I guess. :)
