Archeology Dig by BigFatTexta Archeology Dig by BigFatTexta
I've been really impressed with some of the maps I've seen for use with roleplaying miniatures. So I had a crack at it myself. 100% photoshop. Got give credit to to folks over at the dundjinni forums for some of the objects like the trees and the small tents.

Nice map BigFat. Nice transition from snow to earth. I use the Dundjinni forums too. Lots of great stuff over there.

I _LOVE_ this! Not only am I huge fan of overland adventures/maps/tiles, I'm also an archaeology grad student (well, studies are temporarily on hold).
I, for one, love the simple grid, just enough for utility's sake, but not hiding the artwork or breaking immersion. Many things to love about the map: great technical skill, pleasing colour choice and balance work, good overall design, subject and treatment both genre- and time-period-neutral. And another thing that's great about the map is that you can use each side independently of each other or together, so you could use the left side for any kind of winter camp. The only criticism I might have, and it's minor, is that there would likely be at least a little melt around the tents, especially around the front flap, as the campers' body heat would escape (unless they've got perfect insulation LOL).
For those who think the winter dig might not be realistic, sadly, you are wrong ;) Many friends have worked in such conditions, because most work these days is done as part of pre-construction environmental assessment, which often includes heritage assessment and mitigation. Therefore you work as much and as fast as you can so the "real work" can begin...

Very nice. Excellent detail around the snow-covered trees. I particularly enjoy the footprints in the snow. My only issue is that the grid-lines seem a bit hard to see. Perhaps its the picture. But I think they could use some brightening. Very nice overall!

THANKS :) THE FOOTPRINTS AND THE DRAG MARKS IN THE TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER WERE A SET UP FOR THE ENCOUNTER ON THIS MAP. YOU'VE GOT A POINT ABOUT THE GRID LINES.

How come nobody signs here? This is so cool. Can I use it? Non-comercially, obviously :P
