The biggest news this week is that the manuscript for Book I of Tasakeru is finally off to the copyright office! Now the waiting game begins. Sometime next fall (or hopefully sooner, but *INSERT OBLIGATORY GOVERNMENT/BUREAUCRACY JOKE HERE*), when I get the paperwork back, then the last step will be to put it up on Amazon.
I've been rereading Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series this week. It blew my mind when I read it for the first time about ten years ago, and I'm loving it even more on the second read-through. This is one of those series that affects me so deeply that I have trouble putting everything I love about it into words... it's just so damned good. Gaiman has described it as "a story about stories", but it's more than that, it's like a love letter to storytelling itself. It's beautiful and haunting and strange and deep and a hundred other adjectives, and I've been consistently surprised by how many details have stuck with me all this time later. At the same time, it's a bit intimidating having someone like Gaiman as one of my inspirations, someone who has more brilliant ideas and images in one issue than some people do in their entire careers. I can't help but feel humbled a bit, like my own ideas will simply never measure up. Illogical, I know, but.
That's really about it for this week. Several neighborhood families will be going out of town for Thanksgiving, so it looks like my petsitting business is finally picking back up after a long dry spell. It's a busy week ahead, but I'll try to get another chapter finished during my down time.
