Happy Memorial Day to my fellow American watchers! Be sure to honor your vets today, they deserve it.
I'm writing this in a sort of post-mind-blown recovery state, as I finished Life is Strange late last night. Whatever I was expecting of the game, the final episode smashed those expectations hard. Saying any more threatens to venture into major spoiler territory, but I can say that the game is a rare experience and one hell of an emotional ride, and it deserves all of its acclaim. I've now got a lot of new ideas for Shattered Skies... and some images that are likely going to show up in my nightmares for years to come. Now, of course, I can finally start on Forzare's sequel fanfic, "Life Goes On"... that is, once I finish processing the events of Episode 5.
Speaking of nightmarish imagery... as of last week, Mistress 9 has finally made her horrific debut in Sailor Moon Crystal! In the manga, this is the point where all hell quite literally breaks loose, and I can't wait to see how the anime translates some of the amazing and terrifying visuals Takeuchi came up with for the arc's last few chapters. I just finished ep 9 as of this posting, in which the nightmare fuel starts to really escalate. While it was toned down a bit from the gruesomeness of the manga, it certainly wasn't eliminated. And judging by the shots I saw in the preview... they're keeping some of the most disturbing elements from the later chapters. If they pull this off, I'll have that much higher hopes for eventual Crystal adaptations of SuperS and Stars, ones that keep the dark tone of those arcs intact.
I've been doing a lot of work on the magical girl photo project this past week, as I'm sort of itching to make more progress on it. Bit by bit, it's coming together after nearly two years of collecting and planning... I just need to make time to take the rest of the pictures and edit them together.
After eight months of silence, we finally have a confirmed start date for Star Vs. the Forces of Evil Season 2: July 11th! Star Vs was one of the five (!!!) cartoons I picked up last summer, and I've dearly missed its particular brand of weirdness and absurdity... which we need more than ever now that Gravity Falls is over. Count the days!
That's it for this week. Enjoy the start of summer, everyone!
