Near Crested (Traditional Drawing)

The crest of the Parasaurolophus has led to think that it may have been brightly patterned and was used as a trumpet, during courtship to attract members of the opposite sex and to stay together as it moved through the forest. The sounds that are produced in the hollow crest was used as a vocal resonating chamber shows a variety in different size and shape of this lambeosaurine duckbill. Likely had very different calls compared to other high semicircular crest of duckbilled dinosaurs. In addition, there could have been possibly a frill of the skin at the back of the head, loosely connecting the crest with the neck. This frill could also have been brightly colored and have a similar display function.
